Thankfully not had to deal with this for a few years, but what I found worked was a 'Nitty Gritty' comb and a bottle of cheap conditioner.

Sit child in a warm bath, wet their hair, apply conditioner then comb through hair a section at a time, wiping comb on some kitchen paper frequently to clean.

Will need to do this a few days running, but it's strangely satisfying.

Comb it brilliant and will remove lice, nits and unhatched eggs.

Best thing, no chemicals are used on the child.

Most chemists sell the combs, worth every penny
