Hi Everyone,

My husband has a new job in Wimborne and so we're looking at where to live. We have 2 boys, 4 and 2yrs. Eldest is due to start reception this September so he'll have to start here and then change in about November when we move. (Still trying to find out about schools application, waiting list info, when best to apply etc, but the council are being useless less than helpful!!)

We've had a drive around and are half thinking about Sturminster Marshall. Do any of you live there? What's it like for familes, is there much going on etc.

Thanks
xx

(ps - I saw there was another thread from someone moving to Wimborne, but felt a bit rude tagging onto that, so sorry if I'm asking for repeated information!)

I'm in Broadstone which is a short drive from wimborne and its lovely, although high house prices and rents, but very family orientated and a lovely village with small shops. Wimborne is nice, lots of little streets for wandering round with independent shops and antique places.

Sturminster Marshall has not a lot in terms of amenities and its mainly farms around that area. If you want more going on the wimborne or broadstone are better. Poole isn't far away and that's brilliant for shops and loads going on like bike night on the quay every Tuesday, fireworks every week on Thursdays and you can get a ferry round the islands or across to brownsea island for the day.

Wimborne hosts the folk festival every year and it is lovely, loads going on.

Thanks for your tips. We definitely need more of a drive around I think! We did have a mooch around Wimborne and yes it is lovely, but I think we can probably get more for our money if we're further out. Thanks x

Hi I posted earlier about moving to Wimborne (timings still tbc) but we have looked about and really liked Broadstone. My boys are 8 and 4 and we have a big issue about schools as well as most seem to be full.

Also thinking ahead Broadstone is in Borough of Poole which helps with any thoughts of grammar school.

I do love what I have seen of Wimborne though.

Let me know where you end up. We could meet for a coffee!

Schools are hard to get into in broadstone but broadstone middle (year 5 onward) isn't too bad at the moment due to a bad ofsted report although I'm still sending my youngest there. Primary schools are tough to get into but hillbourne isn't far away and there are places there. It's a good little school and the parents are friendly.

Corte hills (high school) has good reports but my oldest attends queen Elizabeth school in wimborne as its a sports academy. On the whole those are the two best high schools and parkstone grammar (which is 3 miles from broadstone) has excellent results.

Don't be put off by waiting times for schools, broadstone is a lovely place to live if you can afford a house.
