Does anyone have a dc in a special needs nursery in Manchester/surrounding area at all?

We live near Wythenshawe and are looking for a nursery to take our one year old dd who has severe sn.

Ask Elm Cottage? They have nurseries in Cheadle Hulme and Heaton Norris.

Thank you - I think they are a mainstream nursery, though.

The dc concerned has learning difficulties and doesn't really interact.

They are but I've seen them cater for kids that need lots of extra support.

To get into a specialist nursery you need to be in the local authority 'system' and the recommendation made by an end psych and agreed by the local authority. This wouldn't happen at age 1( you can be known and getting some play worker support via Rodney House network, but not an sen nursery place). Have you seen the community paediatrian as that is the first step in being linked into special needs systems? In many cases children with quite severe needs can go to local nurseries etc but you would need advice. You can get this from peads or give Rodney house a ring they are based at lyndene rd Benchill children's centre I think they would be able to give you some advice.

My DD has very delayed development and is in a mainstream nursery in Altrincham. Their SENCO is great and from the very start the council funded an hour a day of one on one time with her key worker. She has now been awarded funding for 16 hours a week one on one time (term time only). Hoping to get her into the Pictor School nursery when she's 3.5 next September.

So consider mainstream nurseries as well. I'm surprised how well they've coped with DD.
