Hi there

We are thinking of moving to Wanstead from the other side of London and would love to know how people feel about living there - are there good nurseries and local facilities for children? Do you feel safe walking after dark? Where do you go to do your shopping?

Also, we are interested in Our Lady of Lourdes school. Is it a nice, welcoming school?

Thanks so much for any advice or tips you can offer.

Nurseries - the three main ones are Little Bears (two sites), Treehouse (ditto) and Zeeba.

Wanstead is a lovely community - very green and safe. We have a very active community - look out for the Facebook page Wanstead Mums and Bumps.

Shopping - a nice high street. Coop, Tesco and Sainsbury coming soon. Larger Tesco in Leytonstone. Waitrose and M&S in South Woodford. Great bakers, butchers, greengrocers and other independent shops.

Loads of activities and playgroups/classes for children. Library, good cafés with child play areas.

Wanstead is a very popular place for families. We've currently got a campaign running to upgrade our playground - visit us on //www.wansteadplayground.co.uk!

Oriunda, I've only just seen your message, thanks very much for this, very helpful!

We are casting a wide net about where we might live. We do really like Wanstead but the estate agent practices are really scaring us off - having 15 mins to view a house with 3 or 4 other families. It's too stressful to make such an important decision under such pressure...

If we do manage to find somewhere I think it would be a lovely place to live

Hi all, DH and I are looking to move to Wanstead to settle down with DD (1) and hopefully another little one in the future. We currently rent in SW London and are completely priced out of the market for the type of house we are looking for. My query is whether you think there is still growth left in the housing market in Wanstead? We are looking within about 1/2 Mile to 1 Mile from Wanstead tube station. I don't want to buy in an area that has had so much growth in the last few years that there's no room left for new owners to benefit from future rises in property prices. Perhaps I'm just being paranoid but I can't see how the seemingly endless march of property prices can continue indefinitely. Obviously, I don't expect anyone here to be a property expert but you might have a gut feeling about these things. I'd appreciate any insights! Thanks :)

Hi Suzi, I think wanstead is a great area to buy in and make a good profit long term. It is definitely one of the more affluent areas of east London, but I believe that you can still find good value in the market here. I think as well as growth potential, you need to look at other factors like is the area safe, does it have green spaces etc and many areas in London with growth potential don't fit this bill in my view. A lot of my friends are starting to move to forest gate where prices are cheaper than wanstead but will probably boom over the next few years. I personally love wanstead as an area to live in and I also like snaresbrook and Leytonstone. I do think that London is moving east as this still remains a pocket of value. What schools do you like in east London? Thanks!

Hi Bellini
Thank you for your comments. We loved to wanstead a few months ago and my child has started Nightingale. Do you have any information on this school? The school is so big I am finding it hard to get my head round it. Also are most if the pupils at this school from south woodford? Thanks

Hi hellohowareyou, I've heard that nightingale school is in high demand which is a good sign in my opinion.. It is a rather large school in my opinion, and in terms of the demographics of where the children are from I believe it's an even split from wanstead area and South Woodford... Are you struggling with the size of the school? If you're feeling overwhelmed have you considered meeting with the headmaster and discussing any concerns you may have? X

Hello, We are thinking of moving to Aldersbrook. Me, my partner and 2 pre-schoolers. Seen some lovely houses but don't really understand how life works without shops / cafes / pubs locally?
Can any Aldersbrookers advise? Is there a good sense of community? Where do people meet if the local amenities are 35 mins walk away in Wanstead?
We currently live in Dalston and everything (too much!) is on our doorstep.
Really any comments about the area / people / life welcome.
thanks
