England's chief medical officer said ‘all children should be offered vitamin supplements to safeguard their health’.
What you may not know is that Kirklees Public Health already provides free vitamins to all pregnant women and new mums with a baby under 12 months along with all children between the ages of 6 months and 4 years.
Make sure you don’t miss out – this year alone there have been over 4,500 new referrals to the scheme with just under half of these being children.
Vitamin supplements are really important for children as they may not be getting enough from food alone. This can lead to problems such as vitamin D deficiency which is the main cause of rickets in children.
Families who live in Kirklees can ask their health professional (midwife, health visitor, nurse or doctor) about free 'Healthy Start' vitamins or can ring Yorkshire Children’s Centre on 01484 415465 or email [email protected] for a list of all local referral centres.
