Hi, We are due to move to the Leigh area in October half term. I have a 5 year old, a 3 yr old and a 1 year old. Can someone let us know what activities there are nearby that I could get the kids involved in, so they could make new friends quickly please. I didn't see any parks with swings/slides on nearby either, but I'm sure there must be some hidden away somewhere! We are moving not far from Bedford High School.

Hi there amd welcome,

There are lots of activities in the area, what kind of things are you looking for? There is a church near enough opposite Bedford High School that runs a lovely Parent and Toddler Group with toast and juice and snacks. I will check what day it is on for you. They also run a kids karate class there.

Leigh Library and Tyldesley Library (both on direct bus route and not far) do story times and baby club type sessions. They also run a free Saturday and Thursday art club with a different craft each week at Leigh Library and lots of great activities in the summer holidays including Zoo Lab, farms, theatre, pottery and art which the five year old might like.

In Leigh town centre there is everything from dance classes, sports classes and all kinds!

There is a monthly meet up at Toyfields Play Centre in Leigh town centre too.

In terms of parks I think the nearest one would be Dootsons Park Butts Street WN7 3AE which is 0.9 miles away and has just been done up with new equipment. Will check where the others are up there.

Further away there is Pennington Flash in Leigh which is a large country park with lakes and a play area.

Pennington Hall Park which is a play area with tea rooms.

There is Astley Street Park which is a large play park in Astley.

We are on Facebook too and share lots of activities on there. www.facebook.com/MumsnetWiganSalford
