London acorn school

Does anyone know anything about this new school? We are thinking about moving Dd from Ursuline and are looking around next week.

V different to the Ursuline I would imagine. The fact that it is a Steiner school would put me off. Neighbours mentioned it but not sure if they pursued an application in the end.

Are you unhappy with the Ursuline?

Not so much unhappy with Ursuline, but not sure it is suiting our Dd hence looking for something completely different.it has turned out to be much pusher than we were lead to believe.

Ok, well hope you get sorted. What about the Hall? From what I have heard it is fairly easygoing, not at all pushy.

Yes, it is a possibility but the journey is a bit of a turn off.

Yeah the drive to the hall is not nice but you can park at the windmill and walk through the common?
Acorn, is that the one in Morden Hall? If so it's beautiful location but you have to be sure you want Steiner. It is a very specific approach and one which they expect you to follow at home as well. Lots to like but also lots to make sure you feel happy with.
Or you could always come to our new free school when it opens :)

Hi curiouser that's what I was hoping, but my daughter is in reception now so she will be in year 1 in September. Visited Acorn today, whilst there was much yo like I am not sure it is for us. Have to keep looking.

I know what you mean about Steiner, I like a lot of the ideas I just can't imagine my little boy there.
Have you found somewhere now? I think the Halls FS/KS1 seem really good. I have a friend with a child in Rec and she loves it.
It's been such an eye opening experience for me being on the other side (from teacher to mother), it's just such difficult emotional decisions.
Interesting to see what April 16th holds for us. Hope you find the right place for your little girl.

Hi, I spoke to the london acorn school earlier this week, they said they're not a steiner school, more their own invention of a kind-of steiner-influenced thing. They reckon they've kept the good bits of steiner and missed out the truly flaky hippy stuff. They're much more interested in sending kids away with an education and they've got an outstanding already! (from what I've read education isn't a massive priority for the regular Steiner-Waldorf schools!) Apparently the acorn school is also super-beautiful, I'm going to pop o their open day this Saturday, will report back if anyone;s interested?

I think the most important thing you can do is visit any school you're thinking about and make sure it feels right for you. I know some who goes and I think they are extremely happy there.

We are also going along on Saturday to have another look. Normally we would kill for an ousted outstanding, I am just a bit cautious about the unknown.

The one thing that jumps out at me is that there are only twelve pupils!! I am all for small classes but that's just too small for me.

Hi! I have 2 kids at The London Acorn School. I'm not representing them in any official way but thought I'd say hello! My kids joined the school fairly recently and are having a great time- really enjoying every day and come home full of enthusiasm for what they have learned. It's brilliant- the curriculum is amazing, the families are full of friendliness and enthusiasm, the children are kind and the teachers really care. Yes, it is new and small- actually this has been great fun- it is growing now. It is a beautiful place to go to school as well. I would strongly recommend it. Dear London Acorn mum,
We are thinking of sending LP to London Acorn School and I was interested to read your views. Are you children in the kindergarten? LP would start at around 4 or 5 yrs, he's 3 now. I really lied the Open day and will return with my husband for a 2nd one in January. Do you find the No Tech policy/contract hard to manage at home?
We live in Bermondsey so will have to move...am a bit worried about where to live down that way? any tips?

To all others interested in London Acorn School. It's not a Steiner school, rather an amalgamation of various alternative, progressive educational systems inc Steiner, Montessori, Democratic...

Hi isommerfeldt, thanks for posting. Why not PM (private message) Acornschoolmum directly - she may not be aware that you've posted this query, as the thread is over a year old.

Where to live would depend on your house-buying budget. The London Acorn School is in the grounds of Morden Hall Park, so Morden, Mitcham or nearby Merton Park (Dorset Road straddles both) would be the obvious Merton choices. Morden has a good mix of reasonably affordable housing stock (although most is semi/terrace type) without some of the 'negatives' traditionally associated with living in Mitcham, with Merton Park providing much more desirable and detached (but therefore less affordable) housing stock. Sutton and Cheam aren't too far away either. But Morden is great transport links to the rest of Merton, Putney and further into Surrey too.

I'm still very happy with the school. I was worried about the no-screens policy but it's been absolutely fine- a positive, even.
School families live in Morden, Wimbledon (the tram goes straight to the school), Sutton
and further afield. Other families have deliberately moved to be nearby, and been happy.
My children are really enjoying themselves and their progress is good.
My older child has picked up the academic side easily. The younger is in kindergarten. I think choosing a school like this is a personal decision but it suits us well and I'm happy to recommend it.

I know this thread is a little bit old, but anyone also uses the London Acorn kindergarten?
We were there last year and absolutely loved it...but my son was just 1 so not yet the age to start. He is older now and I am thinking of moving him when he is three. Any one in the kindergarten? Do they go out much to the park?

FYI, there's an upcoming London Acorn (Lower & Middle) School open day taking place on Wed. 3 May (1.30pm-2.30pm), according to a poster outside the school (noticed it earlier on this week when on a visit to Morden Hall Park).

I know this thread is pretty old - anyone with recent opinions on this school? Want to visit but would have to move for my kids to go there! Not sure if it’s worth it. But it does seem to have the ethos that I’m looking for... (currently at state school and not loving it.)

I just walked past it today when out and about with DD at the park and noticed they have open days in sept and Feb

I'm also very interested and will def be at the Feb one (sept one falls on an immovable work thing for me)
