GinFirstQuestionsLater Tue 01-Oct-13 12:35:49

After discovering how many of us there are around here, I thought it would be good to get our very own chat thread. If there's enough interest, I may even set up a Lancaster local site.

Quick Bio - ex LGGS (the Pammie G Era) moved away, moved back, work at UoC.

I like cocktails and would like to meet people who also like cocktails and maybe would even like to meet up one evening and drink them! grin

RalphGnu Tue 01-Oct-13 12:40:46

Hi there! I'm CostaLady on the other thread. I'm 34, ex Ripley and live on the Heysham/Morecambe border with my fiancé and three year old DS. And I too enjoy cocktails!

GinFirstQuestionsLater Tue 01-Oct-13 12:42:21

I thought CostaLady would be you! I remember that tale of woe - although was relieved it wasn't in the naice costa <sniff>.

PetiteRaleuse Tue 01-Oct-13 12:55:22

Oh I loved the costa thread.

I'm ex LGGS, Pammie era too. I like cocktails too but am abroad. The thread made me so homesick so although I can't move back I want to live Lancaster vicariously through you if you don't mind.

GinFirstQuestionsLater Tue 01-Oct-13 13:17:00

Of course you can live Lancaster through us. I'll even give you a daily weather report if you like smile

I was at LGGS late 80s early 90s for my sins.

PetiteRaleuse Tue 01-Oct-13 14:11:04

S'ok. I have the weather for Lancaster on my iPhone app. Yes, I check my home weather every day <saddo>

But thanks for the offer smile

I was there early to late 90s. We'll have crossed paths I guess.

GinFirstQuestionsLater Tue 01-Oct-13 15:23:24

Sigh - I'm finding that I'm always older than the other old gels. Pah.

Ralph - Love Morecambe/Heysham border comment. It sounds all glamourous with barbed wire and men in uniform.

ErrolTheDragon Tue 01-Oct-13 16:07:20

Can I drop in even though I'm down the road - I think I need to to keep some of you updated about what LGGS is like nowadays as I have my spy embedded DD going there now.wink And also we are more likely to spend an evening in Lancaster than Preston so local knowledge is always good!

LadyWadders Tue 01-Oct-13 17:05:31

Hi! I live north of lancaster, ex Ripley, (32) and my local username makes me pretty identifiable :D

GinFirstQuestionsLater Tue 01-Oct-13 20:13:51

Hello all. Anyone else watching GBBO? I'm going to watch it and then have an early night. Rock and roll.

LadyWadders - was that your nickname or am I missing something? Its not unknown for me to be quite dense grin.

LadyWadders Tue 01-Oct-13 20:54:57

Its very related to my surname (although married name) and I use it a lot as a username, just not on mn main forum smile

Not watching GBBO, it makes me eat and i am dieting zero willpower

GinFirstQuestionsLater Tue 01-Oct-13 21:26:03

I've been trying to diet and was doing great until the 3 jaffa cakes and 2 cookies. You're right that GBBO is not a great program when you want to stay off the sweet stuff.

RalphGnu Tue 01-Oct-13 22:55:26

LadyWadders - KW? smile

PetiteRaleuse Tue 01-Oct-13 23:07:41

Lady you'd almost certainly know some of my contemporaries...

LadyWadders Wed 02-Oct-13 08:56:50

Yes Ralph! But now i need to know who you are grin

GinFirstQuestionsLater Wed 02-Oct-13 09:24:45

This is all getting a bit cryptic, but knowing this area like I do, we're all probably going to know, or know of, each other or at least have snogged someone we know at the Gardens / Carleton / Sugarhouse!!

RalphGnu Wed 02-Oct-13 11:28:16

Hopefully we won't have snogged each other! grin

LadyWadders using my sleuthing skills I found you on facebook but I don't think we know each other. We have 4 mutual friends though and my initials are BT.

GinFirstQuestionsLater Wed 02-Oct-13 11:37:11

Nah, Ralph. Despite the reputation of LGGS, I've only snogged boys grin

LadyWadders Wed 02-Oct-13 16:01:51

I am lost, did you find me through the Ripley link then? Send me a friend request I am curious!

GinFirstQuestionsLater Wed 02-Oct-13 16:06:42

I have no idea who either of you are, but it would be nice if that could change at some point grin.

But important questions here - do you like cocktails and have you ever been to Mint in Lancaster where they do amazing things with a shaker?

LadyWadders Wed 02-Oct-13 17:36:08

Gin... Drinking Mojitos from Mint whilst staring into space is my first choice for amazing activities!

RalphGnu Wed 02-Oct-13 17:44:37

Their mojitos are amaaaazing.

Friend request sent...hope I have the right person!

LadyWadders Wed 02-Oct-13 17:47:17

It is me! Nope i don't think i recognise you. I am now dreaming of mojitos though!!

GinFirstQuestionsLater Wed 02-Oct-13 18:48:34

Yay! People who like drinking mojitos in Mint <cries with joy>.

Do I get a whiff of a possible night out sometime?

GinFirstQuestionsLater Thu 03-Oct-13 11:59:02

So how is everyone this morning. I'm enjoying the fact that its rather warm and have been almost enthusiastic getting out into Williamson's park.

I say almost. I did go out, but not jogging or anything healthy like that grin.

RalphGnu Thu 03-Oct-13 12:10:57

Ooh, isn't it muggy today? Just spent a sticky half hour picking up DS in a wooly jumper and winter coat! Going to treat him to an ice cream and afternoon at the playground as I was a bit on the grumpy side this morning.

RalphGnu Thu 03-Oct-13 12:11:35

And as for meeting up for cocktails, that sounds great to me. smile

Szeli Thu 03-Oct-13 14:42:57

Hellooooo ex-LGGS and later QES late 90s / early noughties; just moved to Morecambe after 8 years away with my OH and baby.

Going for cocktails tomorrow at the new (to me) tiki bar above Reds, excited!

PetiteRaleuse Thu 03-Oct-13 15:07:43

You left LGGS for QES? envy I so wanted to do that.

Szeli Thu 03-Oct-13 15:47:12

It really wasn't that worth the travel - other than for the friends I met. You get rather ousted from the clique if yo don't stay on at Grammar I found

GinFirstQuestionsLater Thu 03-Oct-13 15:51:56

I'm wondering whether to lay a trap in Chat for other local MNers and get them over here. If for no other reason than I'd like to meet at least one who is younger than me! grin

LadyWadders Thu 03-Oct-13 16:29:26

Gin, how old are you?

Szeli Thu 03-Oct-13 18:44:43

You should, you should. I will keep an eye out

GinFirstQuestionsLater Thu 03-Oct-13 21:11:44

I'm 38.
That's 8 years more than I wish I was grin.

PetiteRaleuse Thu 03-Oct-13 21:25:14

Gin, do you know anything about Junior Drama?

LadyWadders Thu 03-Oct-13 21:26:30

grin so I am younger then wink

GinFirstQuestionsLater Thu 03-Oct-13 21:26:44

Yers, Thats what first years did lead by lovely 6th formers innit?

GinFirstQuestionsLater Thu 03-Oct-13 21:27:06

You're all bloody well younger that me.

Kids. Pah.

PetiteRaleuse Thu 03-Oct-13 21:27:54

Just wondering which play you worked on in your sixth form...

LadyWadders Thu 03-Oct-13 21:28:25

Yeah I am well down with the kidz innit... YOLO grin confused grin

GinFirstQuestionsLater Thu 03-Oct-13 21:53:21

Was I in L6 while you were an iccle first year?

Right. That's it. We need to get some older people on here because I refuse to be the oldest!!!!!

PetiteRaleuse Thu 03-Oct-13 22:02:00

I may have been in 2 nd year. I left in 98. After 7 looooooong years.

GinFirstQuestionsLater Thu 03-Oct-13 22:05:53

I left in 93, so yes you possibly missed me by a year.

I hated LGGS. When I got the invite to the centennial reunion a few years back I deleted the fucker!

PetiteRaleuse Thu 03-Oct-13 22:09:06

I didn't get an invite.

I started in 90-91

ErrolTheDragon Thu 03-Oct-13 22:27:51

Gin - as I am a mother of an LGGS girl, albeita current one, that makes me a lot older than you if that makes you feel any better...

Junior Drama was replaced last year by the 'Performing Arts Festival'... well, that was the idea of the new 'head of performing arts', everyone else still called it JD and the 'winter themed play' somehow turned out to be Peter Pan anyway.

Szeli Thu 03-Oct-13 22:44:44

I didn't get an invite either proud

GinFirstQuestionsLater Thu 03-Oct-13 22:47:41

I got the invite on an old email account. I think they just threw them out there to try and find people.

Winter arts festival! Things really have moved on, even if it is still really Junior Drama smile

Szeli Thu 03-Oct-13 22:55:29

I still have the email account we set up in ICT in first year...

On a more important note, where the heck should one go on a Lancaster night out? First time tomorrow since I moved back

SilentCrescendo Fri 04-Oct-13 08:25:46

Just in case anyone fancies it/it helps anyone the Lancaster meet-up page is here

GinFirstQuestionsLater Fri 04-Oct-13 12:42:41

Mint. You need to go to Mint. Its a little more pricey, but the drinks are amazing!

The Sun Inn is good as well.

GinFirstQuestionsLater Mon 07-Oct-13 19:10:54

Evening everyone. Anyone about?

SilentCrescendo Tue 08-Oct-13 00:27:59

Hello! Fashionably late as usual! How is everyone?

GinFirstQuestionsLater Tue 08-Oct-13 06:57:11

Good morning!

There's nothing like an early morning!

RalphGnu Tue 08-Oct-13 09:44:02

Morning. DS let me have a lie in until 7am this morning, it's the latest he's slept in months. smile

ErrolTheDragon Tue 08-Oct-13 10:11:06

Hello you up there! I have to wake before 6:30 to get my arse in gear to get DD to her bus, we have to be out the door 7:30 sharp. Works quite well, I can get some exercise in before work.

SilentCrescendo Tue 08-Oct-13 11:46:48

So roughly how many of us are in Lancaster then, d'you think? Everytime one of those 'where are you?' threads comes up, I never see anybody say here but between here and the thread were the lady was considering moving here, it turned out quite a few of us popped out from the woodwork!

GinFirstQuestionsLater Tue 08-Oct-13 13:38:23

I don't post where I am under my usual nn as t'internet is a strange place! That's why I have this one.

Maybe we're all just sneaky grin

LadyWadders Tue 08-Oct-13 13:47:54

Yes this username isnt my actual MN name. I am north of lancaster by about 6/7 miles smile

Szeli Thu 10-Oct-13 13:11:44

Lancaster's too intertwined to be too open. I tried to go to Aloha but it was full sad reverted back to type and the bobbin

My son slept in until 10am! Didnt nap tho the day before

latteandgingersnap Thu 10-Oct-13 18:10:06

Hi everyone. I'm from and still live in Lancaster. Ex LGGS as well - I left in 1990. Anyone remember the Taylor-Wright Debating Society? I had one of those moments today and remembered it sounded so posh! And Miss Leach made you sweep up leaves or clean the hockey hut if you didn't do games.

Lady Wadders, I think we'll be moving near you next year as planning to move to that place about 6/7 miles north! I'm fed up of Lancaster traffic lights.

LadyWadders Thu 10-Oct-13 20:00:51

Well Latte, we are selling a particularly beautiful 3 bed house in said location at the moment wink

GinFirstQuestionsLater Thu 10-Oct-13 20:08:08

latte, you were in the same year as my big sis.

GinFirstQuestionsLater Thu 10-Oct-13 20:08:29

Lancaster: its a smaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaall place grin

Szeli Thu 10-Oct-13 21:55:46

A small world no less!

latteandgingersnap Sun 13-Oct-13 23:53:47

LadyWadders I may have looked at your house on Rightmove!

Ginfirst - another coincidence! Lancaster feels small when you find how you connect with people - also I think quite a lot of people do come back after working away....realise we actually live in a lovely area!

LissaJane Thu 02-Jan-14 22:21:51

Hi am starting work in Lancaster at Easter and looking for recommendations on areas to stay. DH works near Keswick so looking at Lancaster, Kendal or anywhere in between. We have 2 year old twins who will start reception in 2015 so good primary schools are important. To make life easier for me I'd like to be in or v close to Lancaster but I have no idea of the different areas. Any suggestions?

Szeli Fri 24-Jan-14 01:01:57

There was a whole thread on this not so long ago; I know morecambe better but the general consensus seemed to be quernmore or bowerham. Where in Lancaster do you need to be?

DisplacedDiva Thu 13-Feb-14 17:10:46

Gi everyone. I'm actually the MN Local Ambassador for Lancaster/Morecambe area. I've a thread going on Meetups trying to organise a local meetup. We had a few last year, but then I had my own LO and it's been a little chaotic. Trying to find out who would like to meet up, when, and where. Input would be greatly appreciated!!!

Lancgirl83 Mon 14-Apr-14 22:20:50

Hi everyone :-)
I've just logged on to see if there are any Lancaster mummies about and pleasantly surprised to find this thread - although not sure if you are still reading it any more?
I'm Lancaster born and apart from 10 months down south I have lived here all my life! I became a single mum last yr and have a beautiful 3 yr old girl, so it would be lovely to hopefully get to know more local mummies and their little ones - oh and people to enjoy the odd girly night out too ;-) x

DisplacedDiva Tue 15-Apr-14 23:54:12

Yes, we are still here!!! There is a Lancaster Meet-Up group, and now the weather is getting better (and my LO is getting bigger) want to organise some meet-ups!

Szeli Thu 17-Apr-14 10:16:43

Diva - it won't allow me to post on the meet ups thing but I'll bob down with you if I'm not working xx

AddlestoneReVampPlease Sat 28-Jun-14 15:03:02

Hi People wondered if any of you were still around as am moving to the area?

spbn Thu 04-Jan-18 22:42:33

Am looking to relocate to Lancaster.
Am a non driver as partially sighted and therefore need access to shops, gym and usual facilities.
Possibly a new build for low maintenance.
Any help appreciated.

What's your budget, what size house, are schools a consideration?
