Moving to Glasgow soon

Hi all,
I am moving to Glasgow soon with my husband, he has a new job there. We are going to be in a flat in an area labelled up as "New Gorbals". looking on the map we are right next to the river and the suspension bridge that leads in to Glasgow Green. My husband has seen the flat but I haven't. He said the are was clean and tidy and quiet during the day and the flat was lovely. Anyway (I think I may be slightly vacant) I'm hearing bad/mixed reports about the area. Wondered if anyone local could fill me in.
Also if there is anyone here that lives near that area I'd love to meet up with some other mums. I have a 4 year old boy, William. I'm Debbie, 27 :)

New Gorbals has some lovely flats. Historically the area was a bit of a slum but it's had a lot of money spent on it in the last couple of decades and antisocial behaviour is no longer as common.

Due to it's proximity to the city centre there is a lot of young professionals and families living in the new areas.

That said, it's not a place that I would wander around alone late at night if you know what I mean...? I have friends who live there, and we have never had any issues during the day/evening but like yourself, we have heard the stories etc.

I'm 27 too and have a 3.5 yr old daughter. Glasgow is a great city for things to do with toddlers.

Feel free to send me a message if I can be of any help!

Thankyou very much for the reply :) it makes me feel better. None of us are nightowls so William will be in bed by 7pm ish and thats where we stay the rest of the evening/night. More a stay in and watch The Walking Dead kinda couple :-D

Where abouts in Glasgow are you? I've seen quite a few things I'd like to do already, especially the sciene museum as William is mad on Science.

Would be fab to maybe meet for a coffee if you ever fancied a meet up/chat??

Debbie

I think it's hard to be a nightowl when you have a toddler! I'm knackered all of the time. That said- can't wait for new season of Walking Dead!

I'm in East Ren (not far) but work in Glasgow etc. There's loads of great things to do with kids (and cheap things too!). Kelvingrove museum in the West End, the Transport Museum, Science Centre, People's palace... the list could go on and on.

Coffee could/would be lovely, DD always happy to have more buddies! When are you moving?

Hi, I have a friend who used to live there after university and loved it. he was in a lovely flat and thought it was great for working in the city. He never once complained of any anti social behaviour or anything. Think there are many young professionals there now due to revamp. Where are you moving from? I have recently moved up from Yorkshire and have a little girl and baby on the way, if you want to meet up for a play date/coffee let me know, it would be lovely to meet some friends with babies as none of mine are quite at that stage yet!

Hi
We are really close to the people's palace so that's one of the first things on our list to visit :)
Thanks so much for the feedback. I've seen photos of the flat and it does look lovely, newest place we will have ever lived in, nicest decor too ;-)
All going well with the application our move in date is July 22nd so a week on Monday.

Lifeislikeaboxofchocolats we are moving from Derbyshire, been loving in derby city for the last 4 years.

Would definitely love to meet with both of you :) William would love the company too.

Maybe time for an impromptu Glasgow Mumsnet Glasgow Green meetup eh? I'll post something on the main board tonight and see if we can rally round.

Hi
I moved to Glasgow a couple of years ago and have a nearly 3year old daughter and a son who's just turned 1.

I'd love to meet for a coffee/chat, has a meet up been arranged? Couldn't find anything on the board...

I don't think a meetup ended up being arranged but I'd love to meet for coffee and chat :)

Prettybird and I organise meet-ups either at the Tramway or the Burrell collection - we are knitters for the Woolly Hugs project, but we do far more blethering, coffee drinking and cake eating than knitting, and would love to see other people there.

I moved up to the Glasgow area 5 years ago (we stay out past Paisley), but I well remember what a culture shock it was, and would be more than happy to offer you any help and support I can.

Hi :)
Sounds like my kind of meet up, I'm not a knitter (yet!) but I do crochet, so cake, chatting and knitting is perfect as far as I'm concerned :-D would love to come along to your next meetup.
