Moving to Lingfield/ East Grinstead ??

Hi

I am thinking of moving to Lingfield or East grinstead but i dont know much about the areas.

I currently live in Sutton and think its going down hill fast so want to move.

Looking for somewhere with good schools for my 6 yr old daughter, nice people, good links to london and nice surroundings.

A friend suggested Lingfield or East Grinstead.

Are there any parts or postcodes to avoid?

Does anyone have any first hand experience of living in these areas?

Thanks all

xx

We used to live there, what specifically do you want to know?

We used to live there and loved it. Really good family feel in both places. What do you want to know?

Hi and thanks for the replies.

Would just like to know if its a nice area to live in and what the schools are like etc.

Is there any parts we should avoid.

I have read some reviews about east Grinstead getting very 'chavvy'

As ill be moving to the area with just me, my partner and daughter am worried that it'll be hard to make friends, I am also thinking of having another baby and don't want to feel isolated.

Its there much to do in lingfield?

Sorry for all the questions, Im just quite anxious about moving and not liking it although I currently own a flat on a council estate in Carshalton so am guessing it must be better than here.

Can I ask why u both moved away from there?

Thanks

Vicky

We moved away because we were very young and wanted to live nearer the bars, clubs, music venues etc of Brighton. However now 6 years on Im yearning for the small town life of East Grinstead!
There isn't much to do in Lingfield, although it is a lovely village and easy commute to London and east grinstead.
East Grinstead has lots of family friendly areas like Escots where there are lots of family homes and a lovely school. There are lots of family things to do in East grinstead and mother and toddler groups etc so I dont think you would have a problem making friends!

Thanks for that.

I love the look of lingfield and figure that we will be within driving distance of east Grinstead.

Are there any council estates or parts to avoid in east Grinstead?

I have sent you the answer to your question in a private message, so I didnt offend anyone!

Yes Lingfield is about a ten minute drive from east grinstead, if that.

Anything else you want to know?

Hi stepmommy! I was wondering whether you might be able to send me any info you have on areas to avoid in East Grinstead please? We're moving to the area and have seen a house we'd love to buy but we're a bit unsure about the area of East Grinstead it's in. Thanks

Hi Stepmommy

I know this is a bit late to add to this post, but are you able to let me know which areas to avoid as we are looking to buy a house in East Grinstead, and we don't know the area. We are looking online and doing some research but it would be great with a little guidance.

Many thanks,
Christine

Hi Ladies I live in East Grinstead and have done so for 14 years. Used to live in Croydon! The only estate I would steer clear of is Stone Quarry. As for schools, Estcots is a good school! My son went there. Blackwell is good and so is Ashurstwood . Depends on what part of town ur looking at really. X

Hi ladies

We're also thinking of making the move to East Grinstead from Croydon.
Are there any areas you'd suggest for us to look at in particular

We have one little girl she'll probably be around 2 when we move and would like another baby.

We're looking for easy commute to London with a nice countryside feel
Still would like easy food shopping and activities for little ones

Asking too much?
Thanks for any advice

Hi we recently moved here from the south Norwood /Croydon area and it was such a good move. We are all happier. There's a lot more outdoorsy stuff for the kids. Their school seems better. We live in the imberhorne area which I highly recommend

Hi all

I grew up in East Grinstead and also lived there again a few years ago, and I also have a lot of family who still love there so know it very well indeed :-)

It is a nice town with a beautiful high street and recent years have seen the empty shops being filled with new retail which is a good sign - I drove through there yesterday to see a new Jojo Mama Bebe is opening which is great!

There are quite a few nice areas to live:

Worsted Farm Estate is where I used to live so know it very well and it is a nice community and very close to public fields which I used to play on as a child and walk my dog on. It is located on the East of the town off of the Lewes Road (A22), down Woodbury Av, and very close to Escots and Sackville School. It's about a 20min walk into town and 30min walk to the train station so quite a walk for commutes into London.

Also off the Lewes Road is the Herontye Estate (off of Herontye Drive) which is another nice housing Estate and where the Worth Way is located which is a fab ex railway line which goes from Forest Row to Crawley and is brilliant for dog walks and cycle rides without worrying about cars - that is one of the aspects I miss the most about E.G.! This is also extremely close to Escots and Sackville schools and even closer than the previous Estate to the town and station.
When you go further south on this Estate it turns into Sunnyside which isn't so nice (big council estate).

Another area off of the Lewes is off of Bourg de Peage / Escots Drive - most of this is nice and not council and again very close to those schools and not too far from town.

On the other side of town is the Garden Wood Estate which is close to the train station and full of nice big family houses. This is close to Imberhorne school.

Areas to avoid would be the Stone Quarry Estate which is near to Queen Victoria Hospital and the houses near to Sainsbury's (council estates with a bad rep).

I commuted into the city from East Grinstead for about 4yrs and although it is a long commute (1hr to London Bridge or Victoria), as it is a terminus you would always get a seat on the train which is a bonus! I believe next year the trains will also go to Blackfriars / City Thameslink which is great for the city.

As an aside, East Grinstead is home to the Scientology HQ to the UK and close to the Mormon temple so there are quite a number of followers of both in the town.

On Lingfield - it is a nice village with a good Indian restaurant (Tarana) and lots of countryside surrounding it. It is on the East Grinstead train line and early enough on the route to get a seat.
I went to school in Lingfield (Lingfield College) which back then was a nice little school (I don't know anything about it now).

Great to see this post mentioning good reviews about East Grinstead throughout years. Curiosity - those of you that moved there in the past few years, how is living there?

I am also looking into moving to this area (c-19 permitting).

Any tips of areas to avoid / recommended areas, would be appreciated.

Hey Glitter - love the username! :)

I read that there are some areas to avoid around Sunnyside but don’t quote me, it will just be better to walk/drive around the area.

Please keep in touch and we can share advice/ info, not sure if we can message privately ?

I'm a TV Producer and looking to film a feature about East Grinstead on Monday Aug 31st. The town appears to be the UK Capital for the HQs of variety of religious groups, namely the Scientologists ( Saint Hill), the Rosicrucians, Mormons, Opus Dei and also Druids. A recent podcast' The Town that doesn't stare' has spoken about this and we are looking to investigate why they are all in East Grinstead. I'm looking for local mums/ residents who might have concerns about this or had any experiences they might wish to share

Hi!
Being fairly new to the area I am not 100% on all of the road names. But to be honest there are lots of lovely roads (more so than not). The Imberhorne estate is lovely, all the roads around there are lovely and wide. This is also the nearest to the station too.

Ps. Garden wood road is lovely too! Great local for schools and station and lovely views of the Surrey hills!
