Thinking of moving to Shipton-under-Wychwood

Hi there! We're thinking of moving with our 1 year old from near Oxford out to Shipton Under Wychwood - we've found a dream house (which will need a lot of work) and we're hoping we can make an offer soonish.

I don't know Shipton or Burford very well. I've taken a quick look at the amenities and schools and it looks like a fab place to live, but I'd rather hear from someone in the know about the schools nearby than rely on Ofsted.

So, is there anyone who can tell me more? We had lunch in the Shaven Crown on Sunday and that was rather fun :)

Hi Ninja - we've tweeted about your thread, but so far no luck! Hopefully someone will come forward soon and give you some advice. Good luck!

Thanks! We are definitely moving to Shipton if our house move goes through so I'm hoping I'll bump into some MNers when I get there. Or covert people into MNers if I don't Grin

Mumsnet evangelism - we like it. We could launch our own range of merchandise, maybe set up a pay-per-view TV channel.

Did you move to Shipton in the end. We have lived here for just over 3 years and love it.

I did, thanks! We moved five hectic weeks ago and it's lovely!

Glad you like it - can you tell me about some if the best things in case we haven't found them yet?

Glad you are enjoying Shipton. We are moving from London to Kingham in a few weeks and feeling a bit worried as I don't know anyone only my in laws who live in Shipton actually and love it. I need to find child care so any top tips would be great.

rosebud I'm sorry I missed your message! Did you move to Kingham? It's rather lovely isn't it! I don't know many people yet (other than my inlaws who also moved there) but we have a couple of lovely toddler groups in the area (singing in Milton methodist church, Weds 09.30-11.00) and a Friday group in Beaconsfield Hall from 10-12.

We're trying to organise a meet up possibly in Burford so we'd love to have you along!

Hi Ninjasling, we just moved to Shipton under Wychwood last week. What age are your children? We would love to meet a few people for playing, etc. Thanks for posting playgroups too. I'm feeling a little bewildered right now!!!

hello veryserious and welcome to the thread, and the village :) Hope the move wasn't too stressful. If you can track down the MN Local Burford meet up thread there are a few of us gathering who would like to meet.

My DD is 2, and we go to the lovely Wednesday 09.30-11am singing group in the Baptist Church in Milton Under Wychwood. We sometimes go to Movers and Groovers on Fridays at New Beaconsfield Hall (10-12). There's a baby group on Wednesday mornings too. I'm still finding out about things the villages have to offer, but there's a friendly facebook group which also has a buying/selling page which has been useful.

As soon as the weather picks up the park is AWESOME. But it's a bit muddy now!

We went to the park yesterday - definitely came back covered in mud. We tried out the wild garden today and it was similarly muddy - but the kids loved it. My DS is just 2 and DD is 4 (starting preschool at the village school after 1/2 term). I think we'll try to go to the group tomorrow morning and will look up the Burford group too!

if you go to any good groups etc do see if there's a listing on here and add it if not or add a review and let others know what you think!

Similar age then! You'll have to tell me about the pre-school as we have all that to come. Did you get to singing yesterday? I saw a few new faces but was occupied with my wild child legging it around the room the whole time. She was the one walking backwards everywhere!

I love the wild garden! Fabulous in dry weather. Diggers Wood is really fun too and I want to head up to Bruern Abbey for a walk around there too.

Hello! I am moving to Milton Under Wychwood in a couple of weeks and am wondering what Cherubs the local nursery is like. CAn anyone help?

Report
Ninjasling · 25/02/2014 22:48

Hettie you'll just be a couple of miles from me :) my daughter doesn't go to Cherubs and I don't know many children who do so I can't really comment. I think it's newish but doing ok. There's another nursery by the Charlbury rail station and a Montessori somewhere nearby in the other direction, I think.

Cherubs nursery has been running in the village for at least a decade, perhaps rather longer. We had both our kids in it from 6M old and it is fantastic. It is really clean - our kids almost never picked things up from there. The staff make a huge effort to stimulate kids and the areas in the nursery are often updated. They take kids out on trips to the parks and wild garden in Shipton, and the nursery is well integrated with the local school - it is nearby and Cherubs will take school age kids over and bring them back at the end of the day. Cherubs has always been flexible about how many hours you do, and they take nursery vouchers. No reservations about recommending it!

I'm a few years late joining this thread, but am in the same position considering a move to Shipton with primary school aged kids and would love to hear anyone's opinions of it as a place to live - good and bad! Thanks in advance.
