Hello

Do you have any Earl Grey?

Oh my GOD!

HELLO Woolly!
I have earl grey, and Tetley, lol. (I make a better coffee tbh.)
So, it's just two of us in the whole of Northants then? :)
I'm so surprised these friendship benches haven't taken off. So many threads on MN by folk just looking for a bit of company.

There was a thread in Chat a year or so ago about living in Northants and there were LOADS of us on it. I discovered a few posters living fairly close to me. A meet-up was discussed and fizzled out. I think some people like the anonymity of it being just words on a screen.

I joined about 3 years ago looking for school appeal advice for a friend and never left! I found my spiritual home in Arts and Crafts and I am proud to be a Woolly Hugger. Grin

Well it's just so nice to get a reply here :)

I've been on MN coming up 3 years too. I pop into 'Chat' occasionally, sometimes i'm in the 'Litter Tray', but mostly i hang about in Relationships and AIBU. My usual nickname is Fluffyraggies. I had to give a different one to post here, not sure why. Personally i've given up being worried about being outed on MN. I'm not interesting enough to be stalked! Grin

I love a bit of arts and crafts myself. Drawing, painting, cross stitch, used to crochet. (cant knit for toffee though!)

Can i ask - would you have attended a meet up? It's sad that it fizzled out. I can understand that some prefer to keep their chatting to an anonymous forum, and that's fine. Some people have problems with transport to meet ups which makes it tricky, i know. Personally i would meet up. I have in the past in fact. I'd love to find a few good people locally to share a coffee/earl grey/Tetley's with sometimes and have a good chin wag, but it's hard to know how to start it off.

I've started a thread in Relationships today about the friendship benches. There have been 2 or 3 big threads about starting and finding friendship on there just lately, so i thought i'd try and kick this off a bit. Not just for my benefit of course Grin

Sorry for rambling x

saw your thing in relationships and thought I'd say hi.

Oh I'm not brave enough for AIBU! Even though in my head I'm saying "Of course you are unreasonable, you great pudding - did you really need 20 strangers off t'internet to tell you?" Smile

I probably would have gone to a local meet-up. I would have felt very awkward, though. I'm a SAHM to 2 school age children and 1 adult. I'm a bit shy and wonder would I have anything worthwhile/relevant to add to a conversation - unless they were talking about crochet, golden age crime novels or being a teenager in the 80's! I did meet with a group of like minded and consenting MNers at the knitting and stitching show in London last October. Very lovely they were, too.

I'm in the north of the county - towards the Leicestershire border.

This is my normal NN. I do think sometimes that I should have an alter ego NN that I can use when I've got my sweary head on. Most of my posts are anodyne - I'd never really say anything I wouldn't say to someone's face and I have to be pretty riled up to be confrontational. I do daydream about being more like my younger sister who says what is in her head, regardless of the potential to offend people. Now I'm rambling Grin

Oh glorious! Hi crazy!

Tell us about yourself Crazy.

Woolly - i recon that 99% of people going to a meet up will be nervous first time. Probably second and third time too! There is always something to talk about. Even if it's small talk at first. I think the point is that everyone there is in the same boat - looking to be sociable - no one is going to be stand off-ish. I'd happily chat about teen hood in the 80s with you anyway! I'm a SAHM at the mo too. (DDs are teens!)

It sounds to me like you'd do fine on AIBU by the way. I post the way i would speak to people too. I hate to offend. If i cant be constructive i tend to stay quiet.

My thread on R.ships is still alive! I intend to bump it if it's sunk off the front page tomorrow ;)

hello!

I remember that thread Woolly - lots of people said they'd be interested but being such a huge gap in the middle of the county it became a logistical nightmare (IIRC Wink )

i too have a different NN for the local boards, have you noticed Grin

Well i'm ill in bed with winter vomiting virus. I work ridiculous hours as a support worker for adults with learning disabilities. I have two sons (one is 12 the other 13).
We spent the last 13 years in Rothwell and are now moving to Desborough with my partner (not the boys dad). I have very little family in the country (the rest are in germany) but I do have very good friends. Especially the women at knit and natter church group. They keep me sane when the kids drive me mad and when my work pee me off again.

I was beginning to wonder whether anyone in Northants used the local board.
I find it difficult to meet other mums that I can relate to as I am a bit older than most at the mother and baby groups (42) and work 4 days a week in a full on job so don't have a lot of time. My DS is 2 and I am expecting another baby in the summer so will be off work for a while and am worried about getting lonely and isolated. All my friends had their children a few years ago so the children are all at school. Great for receiving hand me downs but not so good for socialising with kids!

where abouts are you, first?

there are some fab toddler groups about for when you're on ML

I'm near Long Buckby/Daventry. Its just I feel so old at most of the groups. I worry that when I am on maternity leave DS will have nobody to play with his own age. Currently he is very sociable as the childminder takes him to childminder things but when he is with me for a few months he won't have that. He needs playmates his own age, and so do I!

Hi first. I'm near Dav. Half way between Daventry and Banbury actually. There's a regular meet up being organised on the milton keynes board i think. I was going to attend the first one but couldnt make it on the day.

I have older kids, and feel a little out of place meeting up in soft play centres and such. I'd rather go out for a coffee or a glass of wine Grin

I am thinking of starting a meet up in the 'Daventry' area of the meet up board. That would catch people from up by Rugby, and over to Northampton town itself as it's an easy drive West from there to Dav. People from down near the Oxfordshire/Warwickshire border could come up that far perhaps. Banbury area. I'm just not sure enough people will get to see it's being organised. (I started this thread and even i've not looked at it for ages, lol.)

Maybe a couple of us could meet and compare notes on starting a regular meet up proper in NN11 on MN? Share the load so to speak.

Hi, anyone in East Northamptonshire area? I'd be happy to organise a meet up in this area..... I'm OLD (45), not working at present, single mum, with DD aged nearly 8 and DS aged nearly 6, just to get that out of the way right now!

Right. I have another MNer stood behind me poking me with a sharp stick to keep me motivated!

Would anyone be interested in a North Northants meet up? Covering Kettering, Corby, Rothwell, Desborough and all the surrounding villages. This is by no means an exclusive list and the meet up would be open to all who can make it.

Post if you are interested and I will try to arrange something suitable.
