dance class for 5 yr old - she wants proper ballet!

Hi. I'm looking for a dance class for my 5 yr old. She wants to do " proper ballet". So I am looking for a dance school rather than a stage school sort of class focussed on doing shows. We can't make Saturday mornings which rules most of those out anyway. I have no intention of pushing her onto the stage - so just a once a week class where they actually do ballet rather than "the good ship lollipop" would be great! Thanks.

Hiya Have you looked at the Lesley School of dance, they seem to offer lots of classes for younger children on different days,

3.50 - 4.30pm 1st class ballet & tap (age 4-5)
4.35 - 5.20pm class exam ballet & tap (age 5-6)
Venue: Lyburn Hall, Brook Close, Off Brook Lane, Timperley, Altrincham WA15 6RH.

I hope this helps, I wasn't sure what area you wanted the classes in.

When looking for a dance school, check out which of the big societies the teacher is registered with. There are several, the biggest for ballet is the RAD (Royal Academy of Dance). Others include ISTD, IDTA and BBO.

That way you can make sure that the teaching is of a good standard, as the teachers have to pass rigorous exams!

Also, check out the timetable - if there are plenty of classes, particularly at higher grades for older children, then that's a good sign, as it probably means that the teacher is able to get students to progress well.
