My daughter is due to go into secondary school in 2013. The one in my catchment area is definitely not on my list of choices (Barrs Hill in Radford). We can't afford to move house. We are hoping to apply to Finham but we are outside the catchment area. Coundon Court is about a mile away but I have heard that they have gone down in recent years. Any advice?

My friend has a daughter in the first year seniors at Coundon and they are relatively happy with it. I think they would choose it a 1000 times over Barrs Hill to be honest. How about Cardinal Newman, would you be in the catchment for there? How about she sits the exams for Henry's or Bablake? They offer scholarships.....

My daughter is presently preparing to sit the exam for KHV. But I am not sure she will pass, even with tutoring. Her tutor (who is teacher) has recommended Tile Hill Wood Girls School as her three boys are at Coundon and she is very unhappy with the school in terms of the academic standards for her children. But I would agree Coundon is 1000 times better than Barrs Hill!

If she doesn't pass then make an appointment to go and see the head and talk about her and her exam results. Let them know how important it is for her to go there and ask them what you can do to help her be better ready for it. I went to Bablake myself and know of parents who did similar things with children who did not pass exams.

My daughter has just started at Tile Hill Wood and loves it. We got a very good feeling looking around the school and it seems a very supportive and positive environment.
