Glasgow West End - Hairdresser Recommendation

Hi
Being new to Glasgow, and to the West End, I am in dire need of a new haircut and great hairdresser. Looking for something fresh - and a cut thats easy but stylish. Any suggestions please as I have had WAY too many bad haircuts in my day and really need to get my mojo back!
Thanks
S

Hi there! Welcome to Glasgow!!! I actually live in Bearsden now (just outside Glasgow) but I have lived in Glasgow's West End most of my life, so I know it really well.

You're going to love it here, especially in the West End, it's fantastic.

I go to a place called Byres and Birrell. It's actually on Broomhill Cross but it's waaay better than most of the places in the west end or town. I use Cheryl, she's really fanatstic, highly recommended! IIRC it's about £50 for a cut and blow dry (so town or west end prices) but well worth it.

The thing I love about Cheryl at Byres and Birrell is that she really talks to you about what kind of style you want and I mean, talks it through with you and gives you examples in magazines, other hairdressers or customers.

Hope you love Glasgow as much as the rest of us!

Hey - thank you!

Got impatient and got my hair done at a salon in the West End - can I / should I mention the name - and its been DISASTROUS resulting in bright yellow hair. And it WASNT cheap. There was no colour consultation, no inspiration on cuts or styles that would suit. Truly rubbish. Not happy. Grrrrrrrrrr

Debating whether to go back and force them to re-colour (I made it clear I wasnt happy) or whether I need to cut my losses (and not risk them again) and go elsewhere?

My husband (from Glasgow) came in, saw the mess, and then suggested I should have gone to the Rainbow Rooms? A. Nice timing mister, thanks. B. Anyone know anything about Rainbow Rooms?

I use rainbow rooms in George square or Uddingston. Always been good. Think Carling is one of the best stylists at George Square Salon

Please name and shame because I'm looking for west end hairdresser too (work there). Rainbow room is hit and miss, I find. I've had some bad colours ( as in invisible) there, but good cuts.

I use the Rainbow Rooms in Royal Exchange Square. I think so much of it is down to the individual hairdresser though. I once went to the Rainbow Rooms on Buchanan St and absolutely hated what they did and the whole approach of the guy I had. I've only just finished growing it out 3 haircuts later.

I use Cresswell & Co in Cresswell Lane (Greg) - hope that wasn't where you went! I often get both my haircut and the colour complimented.

The only things is that they only take cash - but the cut'n'colour (foils of blond and red plus overall colour) that I had done at Christmas only cost me £90 (or was it £100?).

You must use Omar who owns angel hair on queen Margaret drive. Cut and blow £20-£25, cut and colour £50-60. He is the best in west end and has a HuGE loyal clientele!
0141 946 8751 - you won't regret!

Hi, I'm another byres and birrell fan - I go to Nadia. They are also the only people I trust with my children's hair.

The Rainbow Rooms (and I've tried all of the shops in Glasgow) are good, but honestly - Byres and Birrell are great. They really listen to what you want and if you're not happy, they'll try again! Cannot recommend them enough. They cut my Ds hair too, as lancaster said, they're great and one of the few people I'd trust.

I heartily recommend the rainbow rooms on great western rd - Caroline is brilliant. Fabulous cut for less than £40.

I wondered what it was that you said Grin HOW quick off the mark was someone (EC?) to have spotted that and got it deleted? I can't imagine Mumsnet are patrolling all the local boards to find posts that are dissing all the local hairdressers, waxers, dentist, florists etc... Funny.

they must have a google alert set up. TOTALLY not surprised that they would be all over that, in retrospect. such a shame they don't care more about what their former clients think.

btw re byres and birrell, £50 for a cut and blow dry is nowhere near town or west end prices...

I went to EC on a groupon voucher and while the cut was good, I was soooo bored by their " have you got this product" that I'll never go again. The 3, yes 3 people that took care of meConfused advised on their bloody products.
The staff reminded me of a colony of ants.

Hi guys, I was wondering, if you had 5 mins, maybe you could put some of these recommendations into the Glasgow Local Listings. It's looking a bit barren :-)

i've been silenced, unfortunately...

TOTALLY agree. one member of staff to cut your hair, fifteen to tell you to buy the shampoo. bollocks to that.

oh I had two to wash my hair, was I really lucky or just skanky?

last time i was there, the adolescent washing my hair was chewing gum while keeping up the incessant sales patter. i was terrified it was going to fall out and land on my head.

Rainbow rooms are good

I'd recommend Hair by Hanlon, very friendly salon and great service. I pay about £70 for a colour, cut and blow dry every couple of months and the only thing I've ever had forced upon me is cups of tea.
