Bancrofts or Forest School

hello all,

Has any of your DC write Bancrofts or Forest this year?

I had my daughter write both bancrofts and forest. We got to know about the exams at the last minute , i.e on the 2nd week of Jan while looking for schools before moving to that area. So she did not get much time to practise. She is going to a local school in ilford and they are not very keen on english writing etc. From what she told me after the test ,she did not do well on story writing.

We are a bit tensed after seeing the parents pacing up and down while waiting for their kids to come out from test at Bancrofts. We do not have any hope now.

How did your children fare in the exam? Just a curiosity.. have you been coaching your dc for long before the exam?

To answer your question, my son was tutored for one hour a week for 11 months before the exam, and did a practice paper at home most weeks. The tutor covered English and Maths, but also verbal and non-verbal reasoning for the Ilford County High entrance exam.

This waiting stage is very hard. Good luck to your daughter.

are you talking 7+ or 11+? How did she do in the end?

My dd took the 7+ to Bancrofts's LAST year and got a place - she had no coaching.

My son went to Bancrofts at age 7 and loved it. He got in at 7+ but that was many years ago.
Ilford County High is extremely competitive now, and have heard they only take the top 3%.

What did you use to study at home - without a tutor?

We are going through Bond Books for Forest and Bancroft.
