Snowmen - how do you build yours?

Following this post from MidnightExpress about the difference between British and American snowmen, I was wondering what the snowmen are like where you are living.

I remember as a child being most intrigued by a friend who had livd in the USA for some years, who made her snowmen with three balls (head, torso..er...lower torso, or like an insect thorax and abdomen perhaps), and it struck me as a cultural difference - our snowmen were always most definitely of the two-ball variety. Basic, functional, and somehow satisfying in the same way as the London Underground map or British road signs, while the American version was a little more sophisticated, like their book covers and typography.

My DH is German and his snowmen always have twig arms, stones eyes and a carrot mouth. The snowman needs a hat and scarf.

Two balls for us (Swiss way) but the neighbours do it with 3. Yesterday we saw a snow rabit, a snow Iggle Piggle and a fantastic snow Dalek (in the news)

Oh, are the neighbours American? Or they have been watching too many American films.

I googled snowman earlier and there were a few rather rude ones (and some very sexy pics of an artist called Carolee Schneeman)

I think it might be that they watched too much American TV! I think if you had Googled in English you would have missed on the sexy pics)

The one in our garden is of the 2 ball variety with stone eyes and carrot mouth and twig arms. We're British but living in Germany.

I do remember making a snow Womble with my Dad when I was little.

Our snowman started life as a 3ball dooda, but I got bored and scraped a pile of snow together.

It went a bit pyramid shaped there, but the head/face looks good.

DS insisted it should be a 3ball snowman. Must stop him watching so many American cartoons. Very unBritish.

My dd made one which looked like a pyramid. No obvious head or body. It was just a triangle with some sticks for arms. She wanted to put my scarf on it. I said no. Bad mum.

The Russian way is also three balls. I like the idea of a pyramid shaped one - very arty!

this is interesting as i just read on a different forum about different snowmen too.

a british host family of this czech aupair were amazed by the snowman's snow arms and didnt get how she fixed them on!

anyway a czech snowman has three balls, arms made of snow, carrot nose, eyes , mouth and buttons made with bits of coal. an old saucepan as a hat and a stick or a broom in his hand.

Three balls according to dd1. Her snowman is on my profile. We were going to do two balls, but she asked where his head was .
