Dutch state schools

We are possibly moving to Holland - Leiden and wondered if anyone had any experience of Dutch state schools. Do they offer Dutch language help to non-Dutch speakers for example. My dds speak German already and my eldest can read Dutch which is bizarre but I guess it is because it is a mixture of English and German.

We know there is an bilingual (English/Dutch) school there, but we need to look at other options if this school is full.

Thanks

I'm afraid I don't know too much about what support is offered, but I am in Holland (and speak Dutch). I'd be quite happy to call a couple of schools for you if you like. Are they primary or secondary age? If secondary do you know which level they would be at?

I live near Leiden and I've heard good things about the bilingual school in Oegstgeest, but as you say they may not have places.

Thanks for this overbuurvrouw. They are primary school age 5 and 9. I have just called the primary international school - elckerlyc and they have a space for the youngest not the oldest. So I need to look for other options for the eldest - but I will hold off doing anything for the mo. My dh is going next week to discuss the job further so at this stage it is not definite. If we are definitately going then I may quiz you somemore!

Thanks again.

Good luck to your DH for next week!

Have you ever been to Leiden yourself? It's a lovely little city and only about a 20 minute drive from the sea too, which is definitely a bonus with children! TBH I'm a great fan of Holland and I'm pretty sure you'll be happy if you end up here

I'll put this thread on watch so I can see if you want me to check anything out for you.
