Oh Lord, I am so shallow but . . . Grazia magazine has arrived in Australia. This is the one mag that I missed from the UK, I am beyond delighted that it has been launched here.

Mind you it's still full of the same old fluffy shite it ever was. Kate Moss yawn yawn. BUT some nice clothes - particularly Wheels and Dollbaby top on p89 .

Hooray! Gossip magazines are my secret shame. I am a sucker for Women's Day. I skip straight to the back to the photos-of-my-cute-kids sections to see what awful names people are inflicting on their offspring these days. Hence it has been re-badged The Bogan Daily in our household.

[returns in horror]

Women's Day Please don't tell me you're buying imported ones in Shanghai. Please. Is it the one with the clairvoyant? It is isn't it? And the dodgy nana pics of grandchildren in jumpers. And tales of 'mere men'.

You've almost shocked me into a glass of wine [hand twitches]

i used to prefer new idea to woman's day but I have now succumbed to woman's day too

I only buy it for the puzzle pages to do whilst waiting for dh at the train station in the afternoons.

I know, I know. I would have got a better reception from you lot if I'd said I dabbled in crystal meth at the weekends.

I have an overseas subscription

Noooo! Not you too Eids!

I'm trying to recall Grazia. I think it is a sort of everyman's vogue. I think.

An Overseas Subscription

I'm going to have to return to this thread after 6pm. I can't take any more without alcoholic assistance.

Yes I know. It works out at about $8 per issue and more . But The China Daily is all coal mine accidents and peasants booted off their land by rapacious property developers, and not What A Good Egg Jane McGrath Was or World Exclusive Photos From Nicole Kidman's Last Pap Smear Test.

Grazia is the magazine that has talked a generation of British secretaries into believing that they are perfectly sane to buy LV handbags and Chanel shoes on annual salaries of GBP17,000.

Please tell me it's not an Australian version! Am sorely missing UK gossip

Report
claudiaschiffer · 22/07/2008 08:21

It is an Australian version but that only means it has a couple of articles that are focused on Oz, otherwise it's wall to wall Kate Moss, Madonna etc.

Utter utter bliss

WOMAN'S DAY! Isn't it all Beck Hewitt stories?

Is there a difference between Woman's Day and New Idea??

Utter bliss indeed!

I'm not in Australia, but trashy mags are my secret joy!! My Grandmother use to buy them all and then give them to me when I visited. I would go into trashy mag lock down while I got through them. Now I'm in France and having to buy them myself so I can keep up with the trashy mag conversations with Granny! I buy the French ones (for French practice!) but it's not the same... My DH even picked one up for me on the weekend, but that could have something to do with topless photos of Kate Moss, Lily Allen and Sienna Miller on the front. Being France they're fairly relaxed, so there is no 'black box' covering the bits!

claudiaschiffer · 22/07/2008 10:32

Interestingly - well, actually not that interesting but, trash sleb mags here (oz) don't have the same privacy laws as the UK so we get lots of pics of sleb kiddies, whereas in UK their faces are blacked out.

No nude norks tho. The French are very relaxed.

I was so disappointed the other day, I went to a fairly swanky hairdressers with the hope that I could have a happy couple of hours wading through OK/Hello etc etc but because it was up itself it only had Vogue/SA Life/Some arsey decorating mags - gutted!

Thank GOD I've returned armed with a VERY large glass of wine.

Actually. I don't even know where to start.

An in order to remain on my high horse I won't let on how I spend $7.95 on imported Heat magazines either

claudiaschiffer · 22/07/2008 11:14

ooooooo Heat, ha! haven't seen that in ages. I think I stopped buying it when I no longer recognised any of the Brit celebs - not being up to date on latest Big Brother.

I miss it tho.

Me also at wrong end of large glass of wine

ooo just remembered - you can buy Heat, admittedly 2 weeks or more out of date from our local Borders. Also v expensive.

I knew it! Just when I was getting ready to be all defensive and say I do subscribe to The Economist as well, I'll have you know.

The power of Mumsnet is a wonderful thing. You just reminded me that there was half a bottle of wine in the fridge so I went and poured myself one as well. Cheers!
