Anyone else due to be moving back to the UK this summer? My husband's contract runs out in July and we've got flights booked with BA from Malaysia on the 1st... Obviously can't really predict what the situation will be then but we've been told by the company to stay here for now as lockdown is due to lift in two weeks (unlikely). Foreign office advice is also to stay put if you live somewhere but we won't be due to live here then.

Will BA be legally obliged to bring us back? Feel as though the UK government could well say, we're not bringing people home any more! Also not sure whether DH company would stop paying, kick us out our flat, stop health insurance etc etc Confused

I do t really know what you mean by legally obliged to bring you back but you willbe able to claim on your insurance for the flight costs if they are cancelled, but nobody knows what will happen before July. I know they aren’t helping people where commercial flights are still available.

There was a focus on this sort of thing in the a daily briefing on Monday or Tuesday maybe. This week anyway. I think they are all on YouTube.

The synopsis seemed to be that you need to stay put and follow the local advice. You need to apply for a visa extension if you need one. And there was something along the lines of ‘live within your means’. It’s probably all on the gov.uk website now.

I'd read somewhere that if you have a flight booked to your home country, the airline is supposed to honour that even if its not the same day, not sure where I read it though or how true it is...

Will have a look at briefings, thank you!

I'm not worried about staying now but just not sure what the situation is once the contract runs out and we technically have nowhere to live and not earning anything. Hoping DH's company wouldn't just leave us high and dry but suppose there's nothing to do but wait and see!

Yeah most government advice is for tourists though like in that article, just wondering if anyone has any ponderings on what might happen if you need to come home further down the line.

'Find accommodation suitable for your needs' not 'live within your means'.....Grin
