My family and I are planning to move to the UK and i was wondering if you lovely mums would be able to tell me which areas/cities etc are best for schooling and rentals in terms of homes. We wanted to go go Plymouth but alot of the feedback i received wasnt good at all. What would you ladies recommend for all round good living?

Everywhere has its good bits and bad bits.
I'd find a job, and work from there.

I suppose it depends on how you intend to earn your living. Personally I would avoid London and the very expensive south.
Do you like countryside, do you like the buzz of a big city?
How old are your children? If I had four to put through Uni I might be tempted to move to Scotland.

I live in West Lancashire, gorgeous countryside, cheap housing and easy to get to Manchester or Liverpool for work.

Ah thank you for getting back to me. My husband will keep working abroad and i would come with my boys (5-7) and we will eventually start looking for something. We would prefer to be by the coast but its not vital

Probably best to give a rough budget for people to be able to advise you. The Norfolk coast is lovely but bear in mind a lot of seaside towns - especially in the South are dead in winter with high unemployment.

Bournemouth and Poole are nice. On the coast. Rents are ok and there are some pretty good primaries. Grammar schools for secondary ( single sex). Good employment both locally and in Southampton.

Where is your husband working? How will he commute and how often?
Maybe you could use that as a jumping-off point. Plus: what sort of industry is he in eg if he works in oil maybe think of Aberdeen so once his overseas job ends, there are other chances of him getting work, without having to move gain. If he is an investment banker he will need to be near London. Conclusion is: we need a bit more info!
