Advise on getting a mortgage as an expat

I am hoping that mumsnet collective wisdom will be able to shed some light on this. I recently posted a thread about buying in the UK versus France. The problem i have is that neither me or DH are resident in the UK, and he is an EU national. We also earn into a US bank account. We just cannot seem to find a high street bank that will lend to us, despite having a decent deposit and a good annual salary (again problem is that DH is main earner). Does anyone have any experience with this? Please help!!!!!!

Yes, we recently remortgaged with HSBC (our previous mortgage was with Co-op). We have had HSBC bank accounts in US and UK for several years, so even though our most active bank account (ie. salary going into) is Swiss they were happy
