Living overseas

Sydney folk...tell me how you spend Christmas

Started reading a thread on MN today about Christmas traditions, and apart from feeling wholly inadequate, it's got me thinking about this Christmas, when we'll be in Sydney.

What is nice to do on Christmas Eve/Boxing Day. We've spent a few Christmas Days living overseas and I still associate cold weather with Christmas, which doesn't work so well in Asia!!

We are Anglican, so finding a carol/crib service or two is nice!

We're supposed to be spending Christmas Day with friends, but I'm not sure if it will happen, so in limbo about that.

And I know it's aaaagggeeess away, but I know the kids love talking about it and getting excited about what we'll do!

Not in Sydney.. But we are in qld. We go to Carole services up to Xmas and friends head to church on Xmas morning. I often work Xmas day! But the last few years I have had off we have done..

  1. Gone to the beach after eating yummy seafood lunch
  2. Full Xmas dinner with friends
  3. Xmas dinner, chilled at home player in the pool...

things to do in Sydney at Christmas ,
Carols in the Domain, either watch on TV or get tickets and go along
Most local councils do Carols by candle light in local parks etc. grab a picnic rug and bottle of wine and go along.
Pop into the city and see Santa at David Jones
The fish markets open 24hrs a day a few days before christmas go along and get a big seafood feast
On Boxing Day go to one of the harbour beaches or heads and watch the start of the Sydney to Hobart yacht race. Bring a picnic some swimmers and a beer or three.
New Year's Eve on Sydney harbour.
The festival of Sydney begins in January check their website and see what's happening
If you are in the inner west go to haberfield on Christmas morning and get some yummy Italian pastries.
If I think of anything else I will post . I currently have a screaming toddler

Definitely go to Carols by Candlelight - it's one of the best things about a Summer Christmas.

If your nearer to the beach Christmas Day/boxing day has always been beach swim for my family but you need to be strategic about where and when you go as parking can be a problem.
