Im having the mental jitters. We have bought a house and in one month start our new family life in Canada. Im from Canada ( not Victoria though) but we have been in the UK for 15 years.... The idea of moving seems so much more monumental now than our easy "2 people and a backpack" adventure of 15 years ago. Im not sure why Im posting ...maybe just so someone says "It's the right thing to do".

Victoria is heaven to my friend who moved there from Winnipeg last year. Very beautiful and temperate climate. Very friendly people and lots to do I am told . Wildlife and beaches superb.
And accessible . Hope you have a wonderful new life there Smile.
Still saving up to visit .

I know how you feel. I'm from BC (lived in Victoria for a few years too) and we were getting ready to move back next month after 20 years abroad! But I got nervous, and extended my job here for a few more months - just putting it off.

Best of luck. Victoria is lovely. When we do go back (it will be before Christmas) we'll be going to the island. Best part of Canada! :-D

Get in touch baskingturtle when you get here. My husband's job is based in Mill Bay but we have bought a house in Victoria. It would be fun to meet up.

If it helps... today DD and I went to the beach and a lovely cafe to have breakfast. She played in the sand and water in the beautiful weather. She had a bit of a meltdown in the cafe (jet lag) so she was given a free muffin by the lovely owner.

This afternoon we strolled down to the mall and had frozen yogurt, got steaks from lovely Canadian cows on the way home so that we can BBQ tomorrow. It will be sunny because it always is when we want to BBQ except in the winter when it rains ALL THE TIME. This evening I am going to eat very good sushi with my friend.

Life in Victoria.

Big smile mrsterrypratchett that does help. Although the fact that every person I have met in Victoria has mentioned the winter rain is slightly alarming :)

Now I will just sort out that second mortgage so I can afford some decent cheese and we shall be all set. Where are you terrypratchett ? Oak Bay ( she said hopefully) ?

I'm near Hillside mall but everywhere is so close in Victoria it would be no hardship to meet up for tea! As long as you bring the cheese in unmarked brown paper

Don't worry about the winter rain. I remember meeting some students on their first day at UVIC telling me they heard they have to get an umbrella right away! I told them I've lived there for years and never owned one. The rain is so light I never felt it - (it's just kind of always hanging in the air!) Wink

Oak Bay is very nice. We were very close - in Cadboro Bay.

Thanks basking.... Cadboro Bay looked lovely. In actually looking forward to having a chance to get know Victoria. Architecturally/Historically it looks more interesting than Vancouver (where I went to grad school)....and of course the sea and mountains aren't bad either.
