Canadian schools

I have been wondering recently whether people who have moved with school aged children have found the Canadian education system (either public or private) better or worse in comparison to the UK or indeed anywhere else in the world?

My kids came at pre school age so I don't really have a comparison.

Hmm. My son isn't at school yet.

I'm surprised that there seems to be a lot of weeks where the kids don't go in on Fridays. I think this is more predominant in catholic schools. Our local private schools have just rejected this move. It was proposed to try and reverse a budget deficit. I wonder what will be cut instead?

The Friday school thing is a real issue here as lots of families have both parents working and child care is expensive.

I think it is quite well known that Quebec schools, including private are generally rubbish. Friends moved to TO recently and despite forking out 20k a year for their daughter she was behind when going into their public school system. From what she says TO schools are great. Individual education plans, a lot of support for the kids.

I mean from private in Quebec to public in Toronto of course

I didn't realize that the schools in Quebec were rubbish, I only have experience of BC and that's limited to our school really.
