Borneo for Easter

Not a whole lot comes up on searches here, so am posting again: we are going from Singapore to Borneo for Easter. Any tips or brilliant lodge recommendations for travel with 1 x 8 year-old son, 1 x husband and 1 x Grandpa?

Borneo is huge, which bit are you visiting? Sabah, Sarawak (Malaysia), Brunei or Kalimantan (Indonesia)?

If sabah I'd really recommend danum valley national park, for orang utans, gibbons, hornbills, and just an amazing rainforest experience. The lodge is comfortable, in a beautiful river side setting, with great food. The journey in, along logging tracks, is an experience in itself. Around kk, there's sepilok orang utan sanctuary, the kinabalu national park- nice for walks and views of the mountain, and the kinabatangan river, for crocodiles and monkeys. Then there's turtle island, off the east coast. Lots of possibilities!

We went to Kota Kinabalu in October and stayed at the Shangri-La Tanjung Aru and had a fabulous weeks holiday. I must admit we didn't do an awful lot as there was so much at the hotel to keep the children occupied but my 2 are younger than yours (a 4 & a then 5 year old) so trekking wasn't really an option. We had a day trip to the Orang Utan sanctuary at the sister hotel the Rasa Ria which was enjoyable but i would imagine the Sepilok sanctuary as mentioned in the above post would be great (The Rasa Ria sanctuary Orang Utan's move to Sepilok when they are around 6 years old if i remember rightly, to continue their rehabilitation).
We loved Borneo and are thinking of going back this October as the area we stayed in doesn't seem to be affected so much by the monsoon season at that time of year. HTH

Can also recommend KK national park - botanical gardens, hot springs and a tree top walk.
The sanctuary at the Shangrila hotel is good and they had a couple of baby orang utans there when I visited in 2011. Sepilok is quite a way from KK so the hotel sanctuary is a good option. The islands off the coast of KK have lovely beaches, but are packed at the weekend.

I would do the diving in Lankayan (sp?), a boat trip from Sandakan. It's a lovely diving island with friendly staff. You could also visit the orang-utans and turtle island. The ecolodge by Kinabatanga is fantastic - they do daily trips by boat to see lots of wildlife and even night trips.

Have fun planning!

Also going to Borneo at Easter. :)

We've been to KK before, also stayed at the tanjung Aru Shangri-La. Was amazing, but well out of our price range this time with kids. Not booked yet, so will update if I find anything.

Turtle island was amazing, but I think there have been some problems around Sandankan recently? Sepilok was OK. Hot. I'd like to try more jungly stuff, but our kids are tiny. River trip was amazing, would like to do that again. Hot springs thing wasn't great, but the mount K. and the forests were great.
