A straight swap for UK goodies/chocolate/sweets/groceries to the value of £10 for a bundle of Milo Bars, Cherry Ripe and Pineapple Lumps - to the value of about $15.30 AUD or $19.50 NZD, (doing a quick conversion on ) but then p&p on top?

It's a random idea I know, but I put together our longing for the good stuff, the fact there there are huge mark-ups on sites like SANZA and the thought that there are MNers all over the world, including the Antipodes, so thought it was worth a try... smile

Yes. For Yorkshire Tea. $18 for 40 here. I'm not sure it would work out that well for you though as I always find the postage from here to the uk massive. I posted my niece a library bag once and it was $19.20.

SavoyCabbage Sat 15-Sep-12 13:45:15

It's a really good idea though.

I could be your Malaysian go-between. Decent priced Yorkshire tea, Marmite etc., Milo and Cherry Ripe too. Would have to look for the pineapple things.

would happily pay someone to take away the cherry ripes. they always stay un eaten and then end up putting them in the bin!!!

SavoyCabbage Sat 15-Sep-12 13:50:59

Me too Ben. I bought a bag of fun size ones and no bugger will eat them. Dd said 'they taste too much which I get as they do taste of cherry and coconut.

Am envy about the Malaysian Yorkshire Tea.

Mosman Sat 15-Sep-12 14:23:15

More than happy to help, I would love chocolate job nobs (milk).
PM me and we shall seal the deal

IvanaNap Sat 15-Sep-12 14:24:08

Ooo, takers smile

As an example then; Yorkshire Tea (I may actually be able to buy it from Yorkshire, if you wanted grin ) is £4.40 atm in Sainsburys for 160 tea bags not sure if link will work outside UK which is about $6.75 AUD

I think for postage it would weigh about 600g, so £5.51 surface mail (£9.54 air mail!) using price finder for Royal Mail soooo it works out at £9.91 total, which is $15.20 AUD - still cheaper that your $18 for 40 teabags the robbing buggers

Fair point though, hadn't thought of $20 of sweets weighing more than £10 worth of UK stuff confused the logistics may need more thinking...! Any ideas?

Mosman Sat 15-Sep-12 16:11:56

If we are all paying the postage on top then it won't matter.

IvanaNap Sat 15-Sep-12 20:38:23

Buuut... if one lot of goodies weighs 1kg and the other lot from the other side of the world is 500g the postage cost (regardless of currency) will be double to the sender of the heavier one? (if that makes sense!)

Also, who does the snakes, is it Allens? (I may be a little distracted in my thoughts, in regard to the p&p quandary).

IvanaNap Sat 15-Sep-12 20:41:56

And, just to check Mosman, you did mean hob nobs, yes? Job nobs sounds more than a little kinky, and I've watched my fair share of Nothing to Declare to know any kind of dodgy parcels will be sniffed out quick sharp grin

Mosman Sun 16-Sep-12 02:55:20

Oh yes hob nobs no other nobs required !

Bobbish Sun 16-Sep-12 03:08:28

i'm game - i am desperate for Tooty Frooties - i think you can get postage included airmail bags - I can go and check out prices tomorrow if you PM me (and then just try and cram as many cherry ripes etc in as possible)

SavoyCabbage Sun 16-Sep-12 03:43:26

For 250g-500g it's $21.15. That's not much chocolate though.

FedEx do by volume.

Mosman Sun 16-Sep-12 03:54:24

I've used fexex for everything so far, faster and cheaper than aussiepost

IvanaNap Sun 16-Sep-12 10:45:54

Just looking on the Woolworths website...

A 216g bag of 12 small Cherry Ripe is $3 AUD, a 140g of Pineapple Lumps is $3.17, a 200g of Allens Snakes Alive is $4.29 and the chuffers don't do Milo Bars... (they have packs of the cereal bars but not the chocolate bar online?) - but I'd guess at something like $1 a 42g bar, 80g 'slab' might be $2?

So weight would be about 546g + Milo Bars, to go by Sea Mail with Aus Post is $16.85 if the total parcel is 500g - 750g (or it says $21.40 for 750g-1kg)

FedEx ... um I think I did it wrong as it came back with $132.47 confused

CornishMade Mon 17-Sep-12 12:09:08

You can now get choc and plain hob nobs and digestives in our local Woolworths (regional NSW) grin

SavoyCabbage Mon 17-Sep-12 12:10:37

So can we. And the little digestives in packets for lunch boxes.

Mosman Mon 17-Sep-12 14:55:07

IGA have hob nobs but for $6 a packet, they aren't that nice

SavoyCabbage Tue 18-Sep-12 05:28:23

Coles and Woolworths have them in Melbourne for three something. You could go in and ask if they will get some in for you. They are just in the normal biscuit section. Have they not even got them in the British section in coles?

Thumbwitch Tue 18-Sep-12 05:43:48

Too expensive to post, sorry. sad
I wanted to send my sister 2 bars of Cadbury's Snacks - would have cost me $27 in P&P. 1 bar was ~$19 P&P. Sod that.

Thumbwitch Tue 18-Sep-12 05:45:59

That's 200g bars, to be clear. sad

underthemountain Tue 18-Sep-12 19:15:32

I can bring something in my luggage in January if anyone is prepared to wait.

IvanaNap Wed 26-Sep-12 22:00:34

Savoy, I saw Yorkshire tea in Sainsburys at the weekend; two boxes of 80 for £3 - and thought of you!

Can I interest you in a swapsies? grin I would add in some other delicacies to make the costs even out (I'd spend more on goods, as postage is less uk->aus and you would be the other way round?)

under - which way are you travelling, out of interest?

underthemountain Thu 27-Sep-12 23:07:38

going to nz in dec and back to uk in jan
