Hi there
There's every possibility my husband and I, plus 3 boys (7,5,1) are about to move to DC. It'll be for 3 years. We get a house, and it's for DH's job. What do i need to know? What should I know? What do I need to do?

Whilst I am a broadly competent person, I've never so much as moved house since having kids, let alone across continents!

Any advice, suggestions etc much appreciated. I also see there is a 'living in the US' thread. I will peruse later.

If you're moving with your DHs job, check if they can provide you with a relocation consultant. We were seconded to PA for a couple of years many moons ago and this really helped - someone local on-hand to guide us through where to rent a house, where to rent furniture, where to get car (and drive us around till we'd got one), setting up bank accounts....

Your DHs co HR should be helping you with visas, health insurance.
