We live right in the centre of a large town and there is a dog barking in the flat next to us literally all day and all night.

We don't want to make a scene, especially as our French is not great so we can't talk to the neighbours very effectively, but it's driving us mad!

Any advice on how to handle it? The dog simply must be being heard by others around us, and it's been oing on for months, but seemingly noone else minds?! We mentioned it to another neighbour and she just shrugged, so is this something we're supposed to live with?

I can hear it now - it barks twice every two or three minutes, 24 hours a day. The owner can't know as it they must be out.

ANy advice?

Try contacting SPA

Or honestly do try chatting to your neighbours - it's not making a scene - they've probably heard you too.

If it is barking at night, you can also report it to the gendarmerie as noise nuisance. Although you need to talk to your neighbours first so they have a chance to do something about it. We ended up having to do this about a neighbour's Alsation which barked all night. She was old and unable to give it the right amount of exercise. She was also deaf and could not hear it at night!
