Life-limiting illness

How long from MRI results do you get an appointment with oncologist?

My SIL was in a&e about 2 weeks ago in severe pain, they did an X-ray and said she had fluid on her lungs and needed an MRI appointment. She stayed in hospital overnight and came home the next day and paid for a private MRI a few days later. The results arrived last weekend, she has secondary tumours on her spine. Her GP has done a home visit, she is yet to get her appointment with an oncologist. Does anyone have any indication how long she might have to wait? Does it depend on where you live? We are so worried.

I work in a related field. I’d be ringing either the GP or the oncology department first thing on Monday morning to find out when the appointment is, and it should be very soon. If she has been diagnosed with secondary tumours then she will need further investigations to find the primary tumour before any treatment can be decided on.

Who gave her the results of her MRI - did they not say what was going to happen next?

The clinic where she had the MRI initially gave her the results. Her consultant for a condition she has had for 30 years is talking to the oncology departments and has said they are gathering all the information and trying to arrange an appointment. Unfortunately the delay is causing all of us to be looking on the web. Hopefully they will call her Monday and get her seen next week.

Ring the oncology secretaries on Monday and get pushing.
