Life-limiting illness

Dm - breast cancer

My lovely mum had a biopsy last week - breast nurse said that the results would not be good. She gets results on Thursday. It's shit. I live a plane ride away, and wish I could be with her. She says she's ok with it. I have no idea how to tell my dc.

I'm trying to pretend it's not happening. A friend has just had her treatment stopped and only has a couple of months left. My mum's been asking after her - and I just can't tell her that friend is dying.

My mum is my world.

She has a stage 3 tumour. Surgery is 5-6 weeks away. Tonight she said she didn't feel well and thinks the cancer has spread somewhere else.

Fuck sake.

I'm trying to keep it out of my mind, which I feel really guilty about. But the alternative is just breaking down, which I can't do in front of dc. I feel like screaming.

A bit of avoidance and distraction can be the best/safest thing to do sometimes. Especially when there are kids about to protect. I hope you find some time for yourself too soon x

Surgery got brought forward. She had a lumpectomy and lymph node clearance today. Hopefully will get home tomorrow. She has to have a ct and bone scan to rule out spread - but she's being v negative, saying that she's felt ill for a long time and knows it's spread. I'm at her house - on my own. Considering a gin.

Best wishes for you and her. A little gin can’t be criticised :)

Update. Bone scan was clear, some patches on her liver - which consultant thinks are just cysts (having follow up ultra sound),
She won't be having chemo - risks outweigh benefits. Will have radiotherapy and hormone therapy. So all pretty good really. Helps to write it here
