Life-limiting illness

DFIL has been given a year to live

DH just called. DFIL has been given a year to live. Stomach cancer, has infiltrated the lining. They'd normally do chemo, then remove the stomach, then more chemo. But as he already has heart trouble, they don't think his heart would stand it. So then they'd normally just do chemo on its own, but they think that won't give him anymore time, but would severely impact on his quality of life'length of life, so they don't think that's recommendable either.

DH is away with work, won't be back til tomorrow evening. His voice sounded more broken than I've ever heard before.

My dad died of cancer a couple of months ago and we were just starting to get room to breathe again.

DFIL has been given a fortnight to think about his options. I think we just support DFIL in whatever he decides. And if he chooses to make the most of his time rather than push to fight it, we just spend as much time with him as possible, including DH spending time with him on his own.

It's a pretty dark day though. I just want to hold DH as he is so upset and I can't (there is no way I could get to him, it's abroad with only one flight a day to destination from any airport within 4 hours drive and DH was on today's flight earlier on).
