Dp's white blood count is low and hes supposed to be having round 2 of chemo on wednesday sad.
They're retesting tomorrow but it looks
like it will be delayed.
Bloody cancer!!!
Dp is so frustrated.

Eyespy24 Mon 13-Oct-14 16:28:50

Oh no really sorry to hear this. Should this have been his second cycle?
Can it just be postponed for a while until things improve rather than missed? Cancer is crap indeed.

Eyespy24 Mon 13-Oct-14 16:29:36

Sorry just saw it should be second cycle. Very annoying.

Ludoole Tue 14-Oct-14 00:23:51

Eyespy on the plus side his temperature is averaging 36.6 . Just hope it doesn't get to the dreaded 38!! He feels great in himself (though i have had to put a stop to him trying to renovate the house hmm - he still thinks hes superman! (which he is! grin but im not telling him that!!)

Eyespy24 Tue 14-Oct-14 09:00:56

I think you're doing the right thing with the house!
Fingers crossed wbc count is better today & chemo can go ahead tom.
My mum's just done cycle 10 of 12. (also for stage 4 colon cancer). Each time she's worried the blood test might mean no chemo but so far so gd. She's had few side effects mostly but as she nears the last few she is truly exhausted. Fingers crossed for your DP.

Ludoole Tue 14-Oct-14 10:13:58

No chemo.
They said maybe next week...
Eyespy hope bloods continue to go well for your mum flowers and the rest of her treatment is successful.

Eyespy24 Wed 15-Oct-14 02:25:02

Sorry ludoole. Really rubbish news.
Hope it can go ahead next week instead.

Sorry to hear this - when you just want to get on and press ahead with the treatment it can be so frustrating when there are any hold ups. Is the wbc on the rise though? Do the doctors think your DH will be in a position soon to start the next round?

Ludoole Wed 15-Oct-14 09:33:48

Theclock Got to have another set of bloods taken on monday and then if wbc is still low they will give him a series of 3 injections to increase cell production.

theclockticksslowly Thu 16-Oct-14 22:40:19

I remember it sometimes taking a while for the wbc to creep back up to the normal level and other times happened fairly quickly.

How's he feeling now? Still wants to renovate the house?! smile

Ludoole Fri 17-Oct-14 00:22:27

He felt great today! Still wants to carry on renovating but he let me strip the hallway while he pottered about and took lots of little breaks. Hes also arranging a decorator to put paper up and his friends and family have volunteered to paint the bedrooms grin

Ludoole Mon 20-Oct-14 15:57:22

Wbc still too low for wednesdays chemo sad
On the plus side his neutrophils have gone from 0.4 to 0.8 without any intervention smile.

More bloods friday and if they have risen to 1.2 he will be allowed chemo that day. Fingers crossed!!!

Ludoole Fri 24-Oct-14 12:53:26

Still neutropenic!!! (sad) Feels like hes never gonna get this chemo round!

Oh ludoole that's really frustrating. So sorry sad

littlebroccoli Sun 09-Nov-14 09:13:47

My DP is on his 7th round of chemo, we've had many rounds delayed and postponed due to neutrophils and white cells. We use the injections too when they are low. Despite the delays and no chemo weeks his tumour is no longer visible and lymphs have shrunk back to normal size and tumour markers are very low and continue to be so even during the weeks with no chemo, so don't worry. We thought of it as a great way for his body to recover from the toxins, but still continued with all the natural complimentary treatments we were doing at home (juices, apricot kernels, essiac tea, to name but a few! smile etc) , chemo whilst is important does not need to be the only weapon in your artillery against this beast. So don't lose hoe if they skip a couple of sessions. Good Luck..... You can beat this thing! !

Eyespy24 Wed 12-Nov-14 06:26:09

Ludoole how's it going?

Ludoole Fri 14-Nov-14 02:47:31

Eyespy Blood count picked up at halloween and he had chemo. Got to start injecting him tomorrow/today to boost white cell count smile

Hes had some really low days. Even sat on the stairs sobbing uncontrollably that he didnt want to die. That he's not ready...
This is my roughie toughie fella.

I hate this illness.
To top off the emotional crap, my dad (alzheimers and prostate cancer) is slipping further away from us.

Losing my dad-the first man i ever loved- and my chris - the last man i will ever love- at the same time i

That's great news that he was able to have the chemo round. How many is he likely to have?

Your sentences about him sobbing made me cry. Brings back many sad memories of my DH. It's heartbreaking to see them like this when you're so used to how they were when fit and healthy. All you can do is hug them, tell them you love them and try to reassure them. But it's so hard and frightening for everyone.

It's normal for everyone going through this to have low moments. It's impossible to be positive all the time.

Just wanted to let you know im thinking of you flowers

Ludoole Fri 14-Nov-14 11:10:30

Thanks theclock thanks
Hes having 8 rounds in total. He's done 2 so far. Blood count allowing, the 3rd is next week.

He feels ok today. Hes building me a wooden 'happy' box at the moment. Im not allowed to look as he wants to fill it with happy memories (pictures/momentoes/films etc) of our happy times and give it to me xmas grin
