Indeterminate breast lump - awaiting core biopsy results.

Hi I am 40 years old, a wife and mum to 3 lovely young boys. 10 days ago I had a screening mammogram due to family history of cancer. I was called back to the breast clinic on Thursday where they did further mammograms, ultrasound and then 2 core biopsies. One lump they are almost sure is benign and the other indeterminate - I DO NOT KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS. I am beside my self with worry and am so scared. I have an appointment tomorrow to get my full results. Does anyone know if this means it is malignant etc. Any advice would be most grateful.
Thanks
Bernadette

It means they don't know what it is- either benign or malignant. I would imagine they would explain this and then what they recommend Doing at your appointment tomorrow.

If you want more reassurance please pop onto tamoxifen thread in general health for advice and hand holding. Lots of people who have had breast cancer there to offer advice and support as it is scary when you are waiting.

Also if it is the worst - breast cancer treatment is very effective these days and prognosis is very good so please take some comfort from this. Most breast lumps are not cancerous though.

Agree if it's 'indeterminate' it means they don't know.

I had this last year at Christmas/ new yr and had the biopsy. In my case came back all clear.

Hope you get the all clear too and try not to google!
oh and be prepared you might have a weeks wait for the results, and make sure you don't go alone if you can help it.

Sorry just realised you already had the biopsy.

I'd still suggest having company it's a tense wait.

Well I am back from the hospital - with great news I have a benign fibroadenoma, the hospital were amazing especially as they had misplaced one of the biopsy results. It was the most awful week full of worry and anxiety thank you to all who helped me through. Thank you. Bernadette

I know this is an old thread but I feel I need to post. I'm 30. I found a hard lump near my nipple. I went to the gp who said he wasn't worried but sent me to the breast clinic at my request. Consultant wasn't bothered by it and said I could go home rather than having ultrasound. I said I was there and I might as well have the US. It came out indeterminate which means a 2% chance of malignancy. I had a core needle biopsy, the results were benign however they wanted it excised under general because the consultant hadnt seen anything like this before. Great! Just had the operation and now I've read that it's still a 2% chance of malignancy once an excision with 1/2cm margins is done. So I feel after all this, I'm in the same boat. I'm in limbo. I can't stand this. So my question is...
Has anyone has a malignancy after a benign biopsy. I just can't get this out of my head.

Domo I would thoroughly recommend going to talk to the ladies on the Tamoxifen thread in General Health. They would be the perfect people to talk to about the 'what ifs' and worries surrounding lumps Smile
