Myself and my partner used a private donor to have our son. We are not in a civil partnership so she is currently in the process of adopting our son. However we are applying for his passport as we are due to go away at end of June, only it’s asking for birth and marriage certificate of paternal grandparents which seems strange considering I’ve already stated that at present I am only parent on the birth certificate. Any one had similar to this and what do you do just send it off without and hope for the best?

As far as I'm aware you only supply details of grandparents if you are unable to provide your own passport number in section 4 of the application form (which is used to verify your nationality/right to hold a British passport).
Section 4 (page 7) of the above link states that children born as a result of sperm donation should have the mother who gave birth to the child fill in her details - I'm assuming that's you. At the top of page 8 it states that for a child with one parent you fill in the mother section and then use section 8 on the form to explain why, eg sperm donation.
You could also give them a call on 0300 222 0000 for peace of mind.
Congratulations on the birth of your son and I hope all goes well with the holiday.

I'm the only parent on my DDs birth certificate, I'm pretty sure I wrote unknown/not on birth certificate and only supplied any identification relating to myself. Didn't have a problemSmile
