Another tax credit question - should I declare a cash gift I received?

Sorry this is similar to another thread but didn't want to hijack it.
Phoned today as our Tax Credits were in a muddle. The woman checked details and asked if I received any other income last year apart from my wages. About 6 months ago I received £3000 from my mum as she inherited everything from my dad. It is in my ISA.
Should I declare that?
How much are you allowed to have in savings?

It's a tax free interest, that's the point. I belive you are allowed to have much more than 3k in savings, if you mean you are filling in something that might affect bens and the like?

You don't have to declare savings only the interest paid on it.
