Is it a prepayment meter, you can put an emergency top up on. Give them a call. Or do you mean a power cut?

MidnightVelvettheSixth Wed 03-Aug-16 18:24:54

A prepayment meter?

user1465419261 Wed 03-Aug-16 18:25:19

If you call them they will usually put another £5 on for you.

ineedamoreadultieradult Wed 03-Aug-16 18:28:14

Call them anyway they have to put more on if you have vulnerable people living with you. Of course you will have to pay it back. Alternatively many food banks give vouchers for electric top ups.

why has your freezer food wasted? Food in a freezer which was closed will be fine for a good while and even if it's defrosted it will still be perfectly fine to now eat (unless its stuff that needs cooking of course).

anorakgirl Wed 03-Aug-16 18:50:03

The electric provider will put some on. Ring them asap

Ring you're supplier then

SendARavenToRiverRun Wed 03-Aug-16 19:07:39

Keep your freezer closed for now, the things in it should be fine for a while ( depending when it went off). Ring the supplier and see if they can do anything.
Good luck.

Hi all

Just quickly poking our heads in to say that while we're always amazed by the utterly wonderful support our members give each other - and we're in no way suggesting there's anything amiss here - with threads such as this we do often post to caution Mumsnetters never to give more of themselves to another poster, emotionally or financially, than they can afford to spare.

Good luck OP flowers

Anything you can sell on fb for a fiver?

witchofzog Wed 03-Aug-16 20:27:05

Call your supplier first and ask what can be fine. While you are on the phone enquire about being added to the priority services register as this will let them know you have vulnerable people living with you and they will be sympathetic hopefully to any financial struggles. Also see if you are entitled to any fuel grants. I know if you are with British Gas they are taking enquiries this month about winter fuel grants. If your household income is below £16k you may be eligible for a grant though this wont help you now. Also ask to apply for an Energy Trust grant which is designed for those in financial difficulty with their bills.

Done not fine

ImperialBlether Wed 03-Aug-16 20:32:58

How old is your child? I'd be appealing to the electricity company.

redhat Thu 04-Aug-16 06:53:27

OP has disappeared but usual advice on these threads:

ring electricity supplier immediately
check boots/nectar etc points
Knock and ask whether a neighbour would mind you using their microwave to cook some of the food so that it doesn't waste (microwave is cheaper to run than oven). Please don't throw out the food, that would be crazy and it will be fine.
ring bank and ask for temporary overdraft
raid DC money boxes (temporarily of course)

Gah. Hate it when the op doesn't bother to come back. Especially when people go out of their way to be helpful hmm
