Child Benefit Self Assessment

Freaking out a little bit here. I merrily thought DH was paying the child benefit back through PAYE (he earns £60000 but we still claim to get my NI covered) but doing the self assessment form they suggest that we owe nearly £3000. Can anyone help me work out what figures on pay slips I need to look at to work this mess out please. I am so panicked I can't focus because we don't have that kind of money lying around - at all

you can claim but not be paid the money to protect your NI. You need to have done the self assessment first before you pay it back via PAYE. Did he do a self assessment in a previous year?

Yes he did self assessment last year when the child benefit change came in and I have a letter from HMRC explaining his tax code and what adjustments have been made because of child benefit yet still we are being told we owe money.

will that not be for the next years charge if you have still been claiming child benefit?

I have one for 13-14 and one for 14-15
