There is a waiting period for SMI. What should happen is this:
You make a claim for benefits and the mortgage interest is taken into account (but not paid immediately due to the waiting period) and then 13 weeks after you became eligible for unemployment benefits the DWP will start making SMI payments to your mortgage provider.

I don't know the answer to that. The benefits adviser should have looked into your housing costs when processing the unemployment benefits application. Fingers crossed that they will pay it straightaway as the waiting period has already passed.
