Relative has died aged 95, no will, affairs in confusion, any advice?

His wife is still alive but suffering from dementia, house is full of a lifetime's accumulation of stuff, any ideas on how to trace bank accounts etc. It will take months to sort through belongings. Nobody has power of attorney.
