Need a loan, no mortgage.

We are in the lucky position of having paid off our mortgage and have no debts or credit cards. However we would like to do some home improvements and need some cash. How do we go about this as everyone seems to add to their mortgage for this sort of thing? Do we go down the personal loan route?

If it's <£10,000 you could go for a personal loan and comparison sites will give you great long lists of where to apply. Moneysavingexpert offers this advice which is very good. If it's >£10,000 you could take out a mortgage which might offer you a cheaper interest rate.
