I have been referred to them as I am struggling with some payments - they are a charitable organisation who help you to create a budget and maybe sort out a debt management plan (free of charge). Has anyone had dealings with them and are they really as helpful as they sound?

hun please just go to your local CAB they are dealing with mine and it was very quick and goverment recognised so the companies your in debt with tend to listen to them more. And of course they are free

I have been advised to ring them by Barclays as they have decided I have to increase my loan repayment and I can't.

They said I could ring them or National Debtline but National Debtline woudl tell me to ring CCC anyway.

I haven't rung yet, have to do it today.

I live rurally and no CAB around - let me know how you get on nutcracker, I rang them yesterday.

Hi Schneebly, I have just rung and they were very helpful and have made me an appointment to speak with an advisor on 16th June, and are sending me some stuff through the post straight away.

Thye have given me a ref number too so I can give it to creditors so that they know I am seeking advice.

Basically they told me not to worry as my creditors (Barclays) have very little powers and the furthest they can take it is a CCJ in which the court would decide how much I could afford to pay.

I am really glad I rang them. They have said to ring back if I get any hassle from creditors.

I am using them for my debt management plan and they are brilliant! I make just one payment to them and they distribute it out. At no point during the interview did I feel uncomfortable. I really wish I had contacted them last year when my relationship first broke down. They are really helpful and the website is good for checking your progress.

I know someone woh started to use them but in the end was advised that he could manage things on his own well enough if he could be disciplned and therefore avoid anything on his permanent record as it were.

He was really impressed with them, as they really seemed to want to find the best solution - not just the easiest one IYSWIM.
