PPI claim on an old Halifax mortgage

Hi, I believe we may have had PPI included on our first mortgage which was with Halifax. We took out the mortgage in 1997 and had it for 5 years.
There is a claims form on the website, but was wondering whether to apply directly or through a claims company (which will take a chunk if we are eligable to money back).

We were young when we took out the mortgage 19 and 24 and the mortgage was set up directly with the Halifax in one of their offices.
I don't remember discussing whether or not we needed PPI but am sure it was included in our monthly payments (need to locate the paperwork).
Has anyone any experience of claiming back from the Halifax?

Do it yourself. Pop over to and check out the boards there. They will help you with any problems.
