PPI- can you recommend a company?

I've put off doing this because it all sounds so confusing.

There are so many companies offering their services, I don't know where to start.

Please don't suggest doing it myself, as it's just too much for me atm.

So who can we use that will not rip us off thanks louise

You don't need a company, they will all rip you off. I just went onto my bank's website and found a phone number for PPI complaints. They did it all over the phone for me, took about 15 mins total.

yeah or you can go directly from the bank - but they have mis sold you the insurance in the first place. would you really trust them to put in a claim for you? They all have the power to reject your claim just like what they did to my mom. They just offered her 67pounds for a 5 grand loan.

No claims company has any more power to reclaim PPI than you do. All they do is fill in the forms for you and skim an exorbitant fee. Ignore the thinly veiled ads and do it yourselves - lots of help here and on moneysupermarket.

How can I find a list of all the cards, loans etc I have paid ppi on. Happy to do claim myself but don't know where to start finding who I may have to contact. I would like an easy check back of companies I have had ppi with. There are accounts I had maybe 17 years ago to current and have no idea of how many/who/ account numbers Rex. Bad I know but would like to get all I'm due for

Fluffycloudland77 Sun 26-Oct-14 14:46:00

If you apply to experian for a £2 paper copy of your credit record that would have a lot of the info on.

You don't need account numbers. You'd need to write to all of them seperately.

Mrscpurple Tue 28-Oct-14 09:22:50

Thanks. And what reason is general enough but also high success? Something like " I didn't understand" or " wasn't explained properly"

AlpacaLypse Tue 28-Oct-14 09:31:15

Yes, 'wasn't explained properly' will do.

I was either a stay at home mother or self employed when both of mine were missold to me.

Hi, please help
Is there a way of finding out wether I am owed PPI, as I have lost all my paperwork regarding credit cards and accounts. I'm well tempted to use one of these companies to sort it all out, but understand they rip off

Grumpyoldblonde Fri 06-Feb-15 13:18:04

Don't use a company! they have no insider knowledge. Just think of the people you banked with and write asking if you had PPI on any accounts and let them do it for you. I have had £16k back, all by writing /phoning.
the banks have dedicated PPI email addresses and phone numbers.
MSE is a great source of info. The PPI companies do NOTHING that you cant do yourself for the price of a stamp.

Hi all

About a year ago I wrote letters to all the banks that I suspected had miss sold me PPI . This included numerous credit cards, a few bank loans and two different mortgages. I even went to the trouble of getting my Experia credit report and Subject Access Requests against certain companies to get info on account numbers and old loans. However I have since received letters from all of them saying that after investigating they can find no evidence of PPI being applied onto my loans or credit cards.
Since this loads of people I know are saying that they claimed back PPI and got thousands back. My thinking now is that I might as well use a PPI company now to see if they have any luck claiming back money and then if they do I can put in a complaint through the Financial Ombudsman with about the lender saying that they didn't give me back the PPI when I first approached them and have now forced me to use a costly PPI company. Hopefully this way I can recoup the cut the PPI company has taken.

So my question is (that now that I have no choice but to use a PPI company), which one is the best one to go for?

delilahbucket Mon 01-Aug-16 12:57:33

What makes you think a company will be more successful? You have had your subject access requests. If there is nothing in your paperwork then you haven't had it within the last six years. Given that they stopped selling ppi in the old way in 2011, are you sure you have had it within this timescale?
Even if you did use a company and they were successful, you will not be able to recoup fees simply by complaining to the ombudsman. You cannot just go to the ombudsman. You must complain to the company first and exhaust their complaints procedure. They will simply say that no one has forced you to do anything. And they will be right.

delilahbucket Mon 01-Aug-16 12:59:31

Ps. I said within the last six years as that is how long companies tend to keep paperwork for (some keep it longer). If you have your own paperwork you can claim for you up to ten years ago, but obviously you don't have it.

Just for some background - I work in banking complaints, including those we get claiming PPI/Packaged Bank Accounts and the like.

Firstly, a PPI company will NOT have more success than you. PPI companies follow the same process as you would yourself by downloading a letter template - the complaint will be treated identically by the bank (ie put to the back of the queue to be worked in date order) and the outcome decided will be the same, regardless of who raises it. PPI reclaim companies are a massive, massive con - don't bother.

Secondly, you've already complained to the bank and been declined. The FOS only have 6 months from the date of your final response from your bank in which to consider your complaint - outside of this time and they need your banks permission to consider the complaint, which they'll be very unlikely to get.

Your only chance now - complain to your bank again (yourself) as if there is no history and hope against hope that a complaints handler fucks up, doesn't notice that you've complained before and issues you a new final response letter. This will give you new FOS rights to raise it within 6 months.

Hi I would like to share my experience in re claiming my PPI.
Back in 2014 I tried to make a claim against a credit card and chain of loans I had with Barclays. I had no paperwork as it was a long time ago and things get lost over time. I was told by Barclays they could not locate any of my loan/card accounts and without the account details I could not bring my complaint to them. I am a busy mum an this put me right off and I took it no further!
Last year a very good friend of mine got numerous pay-outs "also had no account details" using a company to do it for her.
She convinced me to call them and after 3 phone conversations with a guy there called mike, 7 weeks later I received 2 cheques for over £6000!! I was over the moon to say the least and we enjoyed a lovely family holiday and did some much needed home improvements smile
I felt I needed to share my experience and MOTO of my story is that ALL CLAIMS COMPANYS are not BAD, as with everything in life there is a small fee to pay but I cannot commend Civil Claim Services and in particular Mike enough for a straightforward stress free experience.
As for the guy that commented on here who works for the "Bank" did not state which one, if banks were truthful and trustworthy we would not have ever been miss sold PPI and also if they the "Banks" were forthcoming and co operative with customers we would find it much easier to bring our complaint ourselves, instead barriers are put in place and it is made very difficult for us, in the hope that like me we are put off claiming!!
Contact these guys it was well worth it for me smile
