If you had 3 pints between 1.30 and 3pm today
when are you legally safe to drive please?

I think each unit takes an hour to clear from your system once you've stopped drinking, so if 3 units per pint (depend on % abv), then 9 hrs to be completely clear, or roughly 6 hrs to be within the drink-drive limit.

legally safe at approx 18.30

however it does depend on size of person, whether they normally drink and if they consume food - there are too many variables for me so it is individual.

I would be safe and driving at 9pm that night.

I meant 19.30 not 18.30

Depends on age, build, how much you've had etc. I'd wait til tomorrow to be sure.

I also forgot the other variable - 3 pints of what, normal strength beer at 3% or killer strength lager at 6%.

If 3 pints of vodka, never

i thought it took an hour to enter the blood and an hour per unit to clear from the time you stop drinking?

so i would say not til after 10pm

As a rule of thumb I always think that if you've had enough for this to be a concern then you've had too much to get behind the wheel anyway - regardless of what your body should be doing.

I wouldn't drive at all for the rest of the day if I had had one drink never mind more.

sorry couldn't get back on!
Not me by the way....was just curious as I live next door to a pub and hear many explanations and none make sense to me.
I thought you would not be safe for the rest of the day.
Dh reckoned 6 pm and I was shocked so asked you wise lot
