Unable to use social media?

Criminal behaviour order or sexual harm prevention order I think can both have conditions of no social media, if social media were used in the offence they were sentenced for.

Thank you for your reply.
I am concerned for my nephew. He's been in a relationship with his GF for about 18 months. She's not allowed social media as decided by the courts but we don't know why. All her family are on social media but they can't put photos on of her.
My brother has asked nephew the reasons why but he says she won't talk about it. He is now getting concerned for his son as the relationship seems to be getting serious.

My friends have adopted and been told they can't use social media for their own safety with anything to do with the kids. There could be a variety of reasons.

How old is she?

It will be to protect her or to protect others from her.

JackieWeaverIsTheAuthority · 17/02/2021 00:19

She could be at risk/change of identity to protect from an abuser.

Report
Mrsrightagain · 17/02/2021 00:30

She is 31. No change of identity and no adoption.

I was going to say she's been prosecuted for unlawful use of social media but weird her family can't post photos. Witness protection? Sure it's true?

@Mrsrightagain

She is 31. No change of identity and no adoption.

As far as you know? It could be anything but if it's dangerous enough that she isn't allowed social media because of it her boyfriend's random aunt or uncle is hardly going to be the first one in the know? The fact her family aren't allowed pictures of her as opposed to just her not being allowed accounts would suggest its about protecting her/her identity/location rather than anything she's done. She could also just be lying...

I am not 100% to be honest. My brother asked nephew just the other month why he never adds photos of both of them on his Facebook. That's how he found out. As you can imagine he's a bit worried about it but nephew won't ask more questions.
It's something to do with her but not necessarily her family.

She could be in a witness protection programme I guess?

Possibly on the sex offenders register with a prohibition on access to computers because they were used for grooming.

A client I once had. Stalked a young lady. After a whole of this etc (he didn't touch her but was found to be very mentally ill) he was banned from using social media. The lady apparently has social media but doesn't put any photos set to public and has changed her name.

Could it be her job? They may not allow it.

Report
Mrsrightagain · 17/02/2021 23:45

She doesn't work and never has.
We really have no idea. She seems ok but there's a BUT. It could be nothing at all although why didn't she just say she would prefer not to be involved. She's told him due to a court hearing she isn't allowed to appear on social media.
My brother feels that if they are to become more serious they have a right to know especially if it's something that in the future could affect nephew.

Have you googled her name? If it was court ordered it may have been reported in the news.

Report
Hawkins001 · 18/02/2021 12:53

I'd say, witness protection or an intelligence officer, as you can tell one member of your family, or something that's happened in the past, or is the court order itself legit or is that being used as a cover story for another reason ?

How old is your nephew, is he old enough to decide if he wants to continue with this relationship not knowing what the reason could be or is it going to eat away at his trust all his life if they stay together, why does his dad think they are entitled to know the reason.

Bells3032 · 18/02/2021 13:16

No offence but assuming your nephew is a smiliar age his gf ie an adult it is neither you or your brothers bussines.

If it was just her not being allowed access I'd say crime but given he's not allowed to post photos of her I think it's more likely to be a protection order. She may have previously had a stalker and she just doesn't want to tell hin

My nephew is 32. My brother is obviously worried incase it's something serious. I just asked on here to see what it could be and peoples thoughts.
Her name doesn't come up in google.
As for my nephew I don't really know what his thoughts are. He's talked about it with my brother but not said if he feels like it's something he can live with. He's spoke to my brother about marriage and if that was the case I do think he has a right to know.

I can understand why family are concerned as it could bring problems for them in the future, whatever the reason behind it. If there's a possibility she's on the sex offenders' register then this is a real concern, surely? Can your brother ask for information from the police under Sarah's Law, if there are children in the family?

It's also possible your nephew knows all the details but doesn't want to divulge them or she has asked him not to.

This is what is playing on my brothers mind I think. Thank you for your reply I will mention Sarah's law to him.

He does not have a right to know at all and respect her wishes, you just want the juicy details.
