How can I check whether a passport application has been made for my children?

Ex has fairly recently talked about wanting to take dc abroad. I am the parent with care but currently no CO in place. He has PR and has them EOW.
I'm aware that I couldn't stop him applying without a CO, but is there any way to check whether any application has already been made? I can't find any info from googling.

Could you make an application yourself? I assume it would be refused as there is already a passport application in process?

Other than that, I have no idea what you could do. It's perfectly legal for the named father to get certified copies of birth certificates in order to apply.

Apply yourself. They will refuse it if there is already one in existence

If you are worried you should apply for passports yourself and keep them safe.
