What do county court officers do?

I bought a house two months ago. The previous owners eventually set up a mail redirect, but mail addressed to a business has been arriving. Including stuff in Inland revenue type envelopes. I have no forwarding address so I've been putting them back in postbox marked no longer at address etc.

Yesterday whilst I was out a County court officer was knocking on my door and peering through windows. He was approached by my neighbours who told him that the man he was looking for had moved on and we were new owners etc. My neighbour came round this morning to tip me off about this. The previous owner "had his fingers in a number of pies"

What exactly do county court officers do? What do I do if he comes back? Any advice?

not your problem. Keep id handy to explain you are not the crook they seek and dont let them in.

that said if he knows the crook has gone that should be the end of it once the land registry shows you are the new owner. you could also ring the court but they rarely answer.

It will be a bailiff, there to collect on a debt. Probably. They have no power to enter your property. If you get to speak to them just explain you are the new owners.

Collbrate us correct but you need to prove he has moved on and inform them of this check your local area website of what you need to do as this can vary. Do not ignore it though as the debt holder could esculate it to the high court whom have far more powers and it will be up to you to prove a he does not live there b that none of your valuables belong to the debtor this means recpets for everything of value.
Hence why the advice is not to let them in the house as they are not allowed to force entry into a residential property.

Showing them your land registry title deeds, which will confirm the date you bought the property, should do the trick.
