Claim on item given before death.

OK trying to be vague I'm sorry as trying not to out self. Name changed.

Death of a relative - belongings asked for from the remaining parent by some of the adult children and given.
Two adult children of above ask for and take nothing as the other parent is still alive.

Years later remaining parent gives item to one of the adult children who took nothing. Item is damaged. Told they could do what they wanted with it.
Above adult child paid to get the item restored.

Once item is restored other siblings are suddenly interested in it. Told above has been given it.

Many years later remaining parent is asked again for the now restored item and tells them they aren't sure where it is as they have forgotten who they have given it to.

Remaining parent dies.
One of siblings asks for the item. This siblings was one of the ones who ask and received items initially.

The sibling asked has only one item, the item above and has had possession of it for the last 20 years.

There is no will.

Can there be a legal claim on the item from sibling?

No. If owner of it now can also prove they had it repaired 20 yrs ago then double no !!

No. It was gifted during the parent’s lifetime & does not form part of the estate.

Unfortunately, we had to become quite informed on things like this when dealing with a rather unscrupulous character after mum’s death!
