Poisonous large tree in neighbours garden

I hope you can help me. I bought a property 3.5 years ago with a little north west facing garden. The neighbouring garden at the time had a small crab apple tree so there was a nice amount of sunlight in the summer. The tree has in 3.5 years grown to about 4.5 meters height and the amount of crab apples in the summer is ridiculous. I now also have a lovely cat and my neighbours do too and recently I found out that crab apples are indeed poisonous for both cats and dogs so I rather keep the tree under control.. Now today I went and visited them to talk about their tree. We are doing up our garden and we are cutting our own trees back a bit so it made sense to immediately prune their crab apple tree to prevent it growing even higher (and needing a tree surgeon). Their response was very much a "let me get back to you and think about it, we quite like the tree the way it is". Mind you, I did point out it's poisonous and it doesn't block their own sunlight. If they refuse in the next few days, is there anything I can do? I am really disappointed, I really want the tree at a height where it can still be pruned regularly. I don't think cutting it back a bit so it's more manageable from a height and crab apple perspective is too much to ask for given it's poisonous for our pets and we are offering to do all the work? Would love to hear your thoughts.
